Got the screen and pc installed over the weekend. Everything is working but there is still a bit of tweaking to be done. I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 and nghost w/roadnav. When the new linuxice is released I'll give it a try and until then xfce and blackbox instead of gnome - just for a change.

Ok - had some issues with draining my battery. Got that part taken care of but now my touchscreen isn't working. It works as a monitor with a mouse but I can't use the touch part of it. lsusb doesn't show a touchscreen and trying to calibrate the touch screen says the same thing. I've checked the cables and it was working before.

I'm also having trouble with the remote turn-on function of the m2-atx. I have 4 amps and 1 crossover. The remotes are all daisy-chained from one to another. Whatever part is last in the chain will turn-on but nothing before it will. Maybe the m2-atx cannot turn-on more than 1 component???
If I run the remote without using the m2-atx remote turn-on then they all power on just fine but I get a massive thump.

Any help?

M2 provides limited remote turn on current. But it is enough to trip a relay. So M2 to trip a relay, and then a constant 12v through the relay to the remotes. Multiple devices require a relay on the remote line of the M2 a lot of the time.

Ok - that makes sense. So I have to wire a relay between the m2 and my components.
I'll give that a shot. I'll also try upgrading to ubuntu 9.04 and maybe the touchscreen will work again.

When you unplug and plug the touchscreen into the USB port, does dmesg at least show that something has been plugged in? Does it give you an error message?

I haven't run dmesg | tail yet but i will today and see if it is even recognizing that something is being plugged/unplugged.

Ubuntu-UMPC has pretty foolproof touchscreen capability and a screen real estate saving interface if you wanna check it out. I was never able to get my lilliput touchscreen working in ubuntu either, but it worked right outa the box in umpc.

I'm testing ubuntu's netbook remix stuff right now on my atom 330 board and liliput monitor. A few notes:

like SenorCole35 mentioned, they implement real estate saving interface, good for netbooks, and MIDs, bad for cars:

It should also be noted, IVI interfaces differ from the mobile interfaces found in phones and MIDs. Those interfaces are still designed with "captive attention" in mind. IVI interfaces cannot demand captive attention by nature. They are close, but the differences do matter. Thus anything that your run on your mobile device in the car will have to be designed for that purpose. You can still get away with running mobile apps in IVI environments, but it's probably not going to be optimal.

Because of this fact, I find the following ubuntu UMPC components good/bad: netbook-launcher good, maximus good, window picker bad. I want to look at the window picker applet's code to see if I can make the icons larger and the close button larger, but as it currently is, I can't recommend it for the car, it's just to difficult to click the icons standing still let alone when your on the road and moving. Oh, and I did 2.5x the size of the panel to make it large enough for a mobile environment.
