Centrafuse On Ubuntu

I want to use linux.

because
1. Boot times is less than XP
2. It's stable
3. Don't worry about virus.

but I want to use centrafuse

Who use this .
And How to setup.

ีubuntu 8.10 + wine + wine-door
but I can't use centrafuse.......

What kinda PC are you running on?
You want to emulate a win32 application with a bit more power than the average carPC arround.

The other question.. have you ever set up any other programs with wine, and gotten them to run?

You can run LinICE and nGhost in linux.

LinICE is a distro designed for CarPuters.

If you want to run CF in wine you're gonna need a fairly powerful computer, and you may not be able to run gps/obd/bluetooth. Also I'm not entirely sure sound would even work.

#3 is a fallacy. There are viruses that target Linux-based operating systems.
Granted, there are nowhere near as many as those that target Windoze-based OS's, but they do exist.
Anyone who runs Linux or a Mac because they believe they are immune to virii is a fool.

And there is not that many Anti-Virus / Internet Security programs for *nix (whole *nix thing is more based on a strong and firm firewall, in my opinion).

Boot time can be fairly low on Windows 7 as well. (or XP ofcorse).
And if one have a system cabable of drawing Centrafuse through Wine... well, boot time with fast RAM and perhaps an SSD would be non to mention.

BUT... The thread starter wants information on doing so... and there I'm falling short.. I'm sorry... As posted by malcom2073.... Not even sure if you could get apps to work properly... My guess is that GPS and radio would be a problem... Sound... is realy dependable on what soundcard you have.

Off topic... I have dual nVidia 8800GTX running SLI in my main computer.. and when I run Ubuntu and Wine, I do not get SLI option, and I have problems with surround sound.. Stereo works fine.

Viruses in Linux are rare... really rare. The reason is that Linux moves too quickly, evolves to fast for virus writers to successfully attack a certain vulnerability of the OS. The fact that Linux is open source allows security experts to view and patch source code where needed helps a lot too. The SELinux enhancements by the US military are a good example of such patches.

Compare that with XP where you can write a good virus and have it still runnable for 7 years now?

No viruses in Linux? I'm sure there are a some. But I cannot confirm nor deny the existence of any because I have not seen one myself.

Centrafuse will not work in WINE. If you have a powerful enough machine, you can use QEMU or virtualbox or [any virtual machine app] to emulate a full windows OS. But that will kill 2/3 reasons to use Linux.

Hmm, I've been running Linux since the old 0.99beta13 days and Mac OS X since 2003 without any form of "protection" and I have never, ever encountered virus.

I must be really lucky I guess.

I've tried to get CentraFuse to work under wine, it does not. None of my best attempts have been fruitful. However, RoadRunner/RideRunner + Winamp + iGuidance does work, albeit a little slow. I even had flash working with it, which was a bit of a task.

And I'm a little confused as to you thinking that boot times are faster with Ubuntu. I've experienced 10 to 15 seconds of boot time with optimizing windows. Ubuntu optimizations, short of compiling a new kernel, still leave me with at best 47 seconds.

There's only a handful for Linux like you said but last count on the Ubuntu forums was at 1 for viruses that attack Ubuntu systems. And with the release of 9.04 next month it'll probably go back down to zero.
