I dunno if many people here are using gpsd, but if they are, there's a document up describing the API changes for the new protocol
FWIW, the changes I made to support this: the actual C and feature checking in cmake.

All i want is gpsd to stop changing my BU-353 from NMEA mode to SiRF.... The only way i can reset it right now is to plug it back into windows, change it back to NMEA and plug it back into my linux box while the box is still active... and never reboot!!! :censored:
You mean the -b flag?
[to be fair, the manpage doesn't say what you're asking in as many words, but that is what the -b flag does]

Yes, i've tried that. The -b flag, the -n flag, the -b * 20000 flag LOL
It still switches it over as soon as i reboot the machine. There's nothing i can do to stop it.
actually... due to this new version of gpsd, does it handle sirf now? maybe i just need a frontend that handles sirf properly and i can leave it set that way! lol
