i cant see mention of a windows emu on the site ( i may have missed it though, i did glance over it quickly)
Does anyone use SLAX as an OS ??
I have been trying to get it to boot with the USB DVD, but can't get it to work.
It looks like a good OS thats small and will run windows apps. Looks like the whole thing fits on half of a CD, which leaves the other half for applications.
Would be great on a CF card too.
Seems like a good alternative to the XP Embedded cost since this is FREE.
Anyway, looking for others that use this
Here's the url : http://slax.linux-live.org/

Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix.
Wine allows you to run many Windows applications under Linux.

CarPC install is starting to come along again...
Worth noting: Wine is very quirky and selective when it comes to the programs it will run. You may have luck and you may not. If it does choose to run your program, expect it to run marginally slower. The good news is that Mono is still working on the .NET implementation, when this is done we should see great support for the next generation of Window applications.
Wine is not that bad, it just has to be configured 100% correct otherwise it may be quircky like you say. As for slower, im not too sure about all of that. I ran mIRC with invision script faster than it ran on my winboxen.

Try checking your boot options. You'll need your USB port set as a boot option before your Hard Drive.
Yes, but more intensive programs such as Adobe Photoshop run noticably slower. Perhaps this because I'm running a Win32 Emulator in a 32-bit chroot on my 64-bit Linux.Originally Posted by cheerio
