yep linux is the DEAL. I'm also an hard core windows user. windows machine will crash on day or another for no damn reason (hardware 100% good) and i will have to reinstal the whole thing. i have 4 desktops and 1 laptop, 2 desktops are running mandrake (i call those two machines my recycle boxes) and i run debian on my laptop. i don't know much about linux and never did a command line up to date, the thing is just like windows but better, no defrag and i never had any kind of drive corruptions.

linux run on all that old hardware of mine, and i must say that linux can turn any POS computer into a kick *** server.

wish i had started with linux back in the days...

agreed. When I boot into windows, my computer will sometimes just 'restart' iteslf, whenever the hell it wants. sometimes when I have a lot of things going, or sometimes when I just click the start menu, or whatever menu. Has never happened in Linux, on the same machine. I do have identical machines running windows without the issue, so its likely a hdd or ram fault, but why would it never happen in linux? who knows... because its better!

<----- Suse 10 user. (currently) Ive been using different linux distros for almost 6 years now and watching it develop with every new release. Linux can do SO MUCH more than windows if your so inclined. I just got done with 2 classes and im much better in the shell (command line) I can run the whole system from command line now. But yeah I started my carPC project and im doing research on linux frontends, and touchscreen drivers. I HATE windows code its so buggy. It is the 'one size fits all' approach to computing. Switch to a linux kernel and you wll never go back

Just downloaded suse, 5 discs. Now i need to install it and see how it looks. Already have mandrake 10.0 and it seemed nice but i dont have any extra computers to play with right now. Alot of people at my work uses linux for there projects i guess i need to start learning more about it.
