As an aside I've been looking at FMOD more seriously to embed music playback into Silverwolf instead of using the MPG123 backend. Thanks Llama for the pointer.

NP, I like FMOD alot, the only issue may be its licensing. Something to check out. It sure makes the job alot easier.

Yeah I was reading up on that. I won't be able to use it in any for sale systems but the open source version (which are really one and the same from a developer's standpoint) is fair game.

Have you already implemented a spectrum analyzer in your software using FMOD? From the API it looks exceptionally simple (compared to something like libfft).

Yeah and a waveform analyzer too. If I recall correctly you just give it a callback function and fmod will dump the data there.

Edit: You may be able to get around the licensing in otherways. Make an executable that contains only the player interface with visualizations etc. You can provide this software for free. Then, you can charge for the rest of silverwolf. With a little Exposure event and Signal trickery you can make it behave as one software. Basically you use exposures to switch between the two programs and you may need signals so that the Player software can "tell" silverwolf when the currrent song changes, etc...

I'll deal with licensing issues another day (it's not like these are selling like hotcakes anyway - they're really expensive

) and concentrate on the open source "version". That way I can keep the bulk of things in one big horking executable that would be nice for an eventual truly embedded system.

I started doing some tests with FMOD. The only thing that's frustrating is the PDF for their API seems to be screwed up. Or maybe it's just obfuscated C
