I went through this ordeal recently with Gentoo. I tried to unpack the shell archive with the Fedora Core 4 version of the driver, and the script complained about not being able to find RPM packages for gcc and such installed.
Elsewhere egalax has a section called
manuals, and have one for the
Linux driver. It has instructions for how to do a manual install on an unsupported distro. It's not very hard. The shell archive leaves a file /tmp/touchkit.tgz that you manually unpack and build.
There
is another driver, one that is maintained by an open source community person rather than egalax. The kernel part even made it into the main line core kernel. YMMV, I never figured out how to make it work.
