We run Gentoo serving everything in our infrastructure that doesn't require a commercial Windows application server (Financial junk). We support about 600-700 users depending on the time of year. Been doing Gentoo for 2-3 years since the migration away from RH9. No hiccups... But then, our staff don't just play UNIX admins on the Internet. We've been eating/sleeping this stuff for a long time.

I purchased my newest computer with a fresh install of unbuntu on it. absolutly LOVE it, except for the no .wmv compatability(they just upgraded a version and my programs have not cought up). But I do not program farther then personal html pages. So I feel I am only using part of my OS not knowing allot of programming code. Even for part of its usage, unbuntu does circles around windoze for the comfertable computer user type. All my computers are getting it as soon as they are back together.

WoW?? WTF! Good eye! The MMORPG culture (my brothers are big WoW players), when brought into the real world makes me laugh more than anything else.

I think times less than half a minute are common. Hibernate/ resume times get even faster. The fastest I've heard from Linux is about 15 seconds. The best reasons to run Linux over windows are:

- excellent community

- superior customizability
- runs faster on epia systems (and most systems overall... windows is a resource hog)
- doesn't cost a dime (just a little time

) including software upgrades
- is only getting more popular every day

Ive tried suse, fedora and ubuntu. I really like ubuntu. 1 iso image to download and live boot from the ubuntu cd. so you could play around with it with out having to install it. Linux just takes time to learn, I feel, much more then windows or mac. But its free for the most part and all the code is open source. I also like fedora. Try them both.

I read on yahoo that about 10% of the users on WOW are addicted and need psychiatric help! Sounds about right to me. 10% of mp3car users probably need help too

I could say the same about people who drive 2003 mitsubishi eclipses... cars for people that want Wannabe sports cars and mid-salary secretaries. Go drive a real car, and stop trying to stir **** up you *******.

you don't need to defend yourself against a statement like that. Its based on a premise that is impossible to prove. He's probably just mad because he tried playing once and got pawned by a lvl 13 pally. That's basically the equivalent of losing chess to a 10 year old girl.

Thats what im talkin about... People get sooo defensive when you talk about World of Warcraft... they get sooo consumed with the game that they loose track of "reality" and sooner or later they find themselves completely alone because their wife or girlfriend left them, their dog dies cause they forget to feed it, they loose their jobs because all they talk about when they do show up for work is WOW... They finally wake up when their internet gets turned off due to non-payment or they eventually die due to the fact they forgot to eat, sleep and **** on a normal basis. But at least they got that level 70 mage for the 4th time this week...

Sorry to get so off the subject... it would be interesting to see if anyone ever got sooo sucked into the World of Warcraft that they actually try to play it when they drive... i think its time for a poll or something!!!

If you just so happen to see a 1993 rusted out toyota mr2 on the streets STAY CLEAR HE'S PLAYING WARCRAFT!!!
