The biggest thing I dislike about linuxICE so far is having to log into it. It's an appliance, just start X, and automatically log the user in. That login screen means that to use linuxICE in my car, I would *have* to have a keyboard plugged in, which kinda sucks.

Chunky_Ks: after the install, run iceconfigure, enter your username and click "Go". This will post configure autologin, hibernate, and a bunch of other things so you won't have to use your keyboard. Someday, this will be a part of the installation, but for now, it's an acceptable workaround.

    Code:
    bash: iceconfigure: command not found
Oh, finally found it. Wasn't in any of the first three places I looked :-(

    ... gyah

Previously, to turn it off I was using Virtual Box's menu: Machine->ACPI Shutdown, which worked perfectly. Now I've run iceconfigure, I can't do that.

Additonally, I can't find the shutdown button.

chunky_ks, you are going to hate this but iceinstall changes the default shutdown via acpi to hibernate and i don't think vbox knows how to do that.

To get the shutdown menu, press back on the main nghost screen.

    No Sound fix?

I can't get any audio from the latest LinuxICE. It worked in some of the earlier versions, but not now. I've found several audio control areas within the software, and all have audio enabled and the sliders at max. I also have two buttons for PulseAudio, one shows audio levels on both speaker channels, the other does not.
Is there a fix or workaround for this? I did the ICE Update this morning, but it didn't help my sound.
Other than the sound, I like LinuxICE so far!

when you launch pavucontrol, and tab to the "Output Devices" tab, is it the dreaded "NULL output device"? is it muted? is the volume all the way up?

did you adjust nghost's volume all the way up when playing a song (in icepanel click on music and spam the volume up button)?

What hardware are you testing on?

    thanks

First of all, Merry Christmas! Taking a break from the festivities and enjoying some peace and quiet playing with the confuser.
I launched pavucontrol in the Terminal Emulator and DO NOT have the dreaded "NULL output device". It was not muted, I see audio levels being indicated, volume sliders are maxed out.
nGhosts volume is all the way up.
The hardware is a Dell desktop, Optiplex SX260, P4, 2.4 GHZ CPU, integrated audio, simply using amplified pc speakers for now.
After checking these items, I shut down the system and left it for a while, fried a turkey, made gumbo, took a nap. This evening, powered it back up again and now audio is working! I haven't shut it down again, and can't see anything changed. Very frustrating.

P.S. I also now have a PulseAudio Applet in the upper right hand corner of the screen. It wasn't there before...

    two big updates

A couple new things to test:

    LinuxICE2-2010-01-16.iso

This is what will become LinuxICE 2.0.1 in the next few weeks. All the new packages are there and the new kernel but nothing has been tested. Also, I haven't messed with the usplash at all yet (that's next on the list).

Notes on 2.0.1 changes here: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/linu...1-preview.html

    LinuxICE3 images

We've started pushing LinuxICE3 daily-live images to here. Don't expect anything useful for a while, but do expect to see some cool stuff incrementally.

What's new? Basically it's just a new base right now from ubuntu's upcoming lucid lynx(10.04). One of the cool things about lucid is the move to use plymouth which replaces usplash and xsplash. Plymouth provides much prettier boot splashes. You can bet your bottom dollar we'll have a custom plymouth plugin for linuxice.
