When I start nghost by itself I get the standard page with the 6 buttons... Selecting any one of these buttons puts you into the appropriate function, however, there is no way to get back to the starting screen. For music, there is no way to get to the *player* screen. Instead you are stuck at the music selection screen. So just to be clear... Is icepanel necessary to move around the different sections? If so what is the appropriate way to start it up?
Thanks
if you are using the nghost from the linuxice repo, yes, icepanel is required for navigating around.
the skin for nghost in linuxice has been tweaked to utilize icepanel. If you open up /usr/share/nghost/vistique/skin.xml and uncommend the panel, you should have those basic functions back in nghost.

I'm confused....do you mean I will be able to navigate nghost without the panel? Will a control button appear to move back to the previous screen? Or do I need to install a different version of nghost? What do I need to do so I can get back to the main nghost start screen without having to log off then back in? I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with the Cairo Dock. Can I add a launcher button to the dock to do what the arrow button on icepanel did?

yes the vistique skin has a back button but it is not used. follow the instructions that tripzero has stated and you should be fine.
