Custom Themes Web UI

SrMcTod mentioned to me that people will likely want to tailor the LinuxICE theme to their installation. I personally would like a theme customized for my car. To make this super easy, I think I can write an app that takes a png and creates a theme package that you can drop in and install. To make it even easier, why not make a web interface where you can upload the image, and download the package?

So with this idea, I have 2 questions:

1) is there any interest in using such an app to customize your splash screen on LinuxICE?

2) would anyone be willing to do the web side of the application?

Can I suggest that not only is this a great idea but you should expand it to include more aspects of the UI?

Of course, you know that I have my reasons, but I think being able to make your changes via a web browser app and downloading them to the device is a first step towards a more integrated experience for the car PC.

By making it web enabled, one can make the changes they wish, see the results, and use them in the car without messing around out in the car. And of course, if one has in iPhone or smart phone (wink, wink), perhaps one could create an interface on the web that could be served up by the PC to the smart phone if....for example (and I'm just saying here)...an embedded Linux device was doing the serving.

But that's just me!

SMT and I were talking also about being able to create themes for all LinuxICE components: nghost, navit, icepanel, etc. I think the above is a good first step.

Bugbyte: how far are you along with your sheeva-web? We need to get your stuff in the LinuxICE code repo so myself *wink wink* and other's can start iterating on it and packages can start being made for it. I can't wait for the sheeva to come!

A web UI would make the experience more portable and prevent from having the need for more client side software.

Me = Struggle to make tiny steps. But so far I have a program that outputs speed data repeatedly to a web page. I'm working on making it display in LED format so it actually looks like an electronic speedo. Then, I'll make it use a night background based on either time of day or calculated sunset.

Bugbyte: can you post your codes? Even if it's currently not working/stable, at least we can get it in LinuxICE 2.0 before final so it'll be there when users run apt-get update. In addition, i'll put the codes in the LinuxICE subversion repo which will get my eyes and a few other's eyes on the codes making improvements.
