RC 1 issues

I have reinstalled RC1 several times, and have found the following issues:

1. During install, about 82% through I get the system message "An attempt to configure apt to install additional packages from the CD have failed" I only have the Ok (the only choice) button available. The INstalling box says Configuring apt, then the percentage, then Scanning the CD-ROM at the bottom of the box. This CD was burned at 8X. After clicking ok, it goes to scanning the mirror. I have logged on to my network before I started install.

2. I always have to enter my WEP or WAP password (depending on which network I am on) when starting up. I never get a prompt for a keyring to enter a blank to stop this.

3. Still the problem with the screen being over sized, on both the install and installed Linuxice. I understand this is fixed.

4. NSCAN seems to not work. In ps -ef I have a nscan [defunct], which means I think that it died. I also have an active nscan. Or at least it looks active. Nothing in DMESG or /var/log/messages to indicate what is happening. Anyplace else I can look, or debugging I can run? Upon a reboot, it again picks up the first Directory, the first album and the songs in the album. Nothing else on subsequent reboots.

5. ICEconfigure seems to hang. It gets to (the line is only 1/2 visible like superscript) so it's hard to read) "[box]1.24f[box]l4i[box]l0" and just stops. there may be more, but it's cut off on the right side also. I let it sit for 10 minutes with no change the second time. If I go back in try to do it again, it tells me Activating tuxc. Nothing different if I do it again. I have to login via command line everytime also.

6. The system does not detect my Lilliput 8" touchscreen. The video portion appears to work correctly, however the touchscreen will not calibrate. I have reversed axes, and when I touch the calibration targets, it ignores it. There is much out there about how to configure, but nothing that appears to work in 9.04 Ubuntu. I have the internal video screen off, only working on external output.

My machine is a Dell Inspiron 2500 P3 900MHz, 512 MB RAM, 60GB IDE drive, DVDROM, Intel chipset (e81X? series).

I hope these are helpful and what you are looking for in testing.

Did an apt-get upgrade. Synaptics no longer asks for an password so I couldn't do an upgrade inside Linuxice.

Here are the results:

1. Didn't reinstall.

2. Still asks for my password.

3. Fixed!

4. Still no current nscan library.

5. Fixed!

6. Still no touchscreen found. USB is plugged in, and usbscreen is running

Something else I've noticed from having to copy and paste my passwords.

The clipboard does not save data when the copied application is closed.

Example. Network Connections asks for WAP password when Linuxice opens. I open my text doc with my passwords, CTL+C or Edit > Copy the password, close the text app. I can no longer paste that data, the paste option is grayed.

If I keep the text doc open while I paste, then close it, it pastes ok.

While this is an annoying message, it is nonfatal and can be ignored. I don't know what causes it or how to get rid of it.

We've committed a solution for this although i'm not sure that the stable repo has reflected the update. I will test and get back to you.

Can you get on the irc channel (#linuxice on irc.freenode.com) and I'll see if I can help you through this. NScan works for me about 95% of the time. I've experienced twice randomly where nscan's db corrupts and no music shows up at all. Both times a deletion of the db solves it.

Did you try the workaround for the "no touchscreen controller found" bug? I can't solve this in an update, but the final image should have a fix for that bug. We can also work through this on the IRC channel.

The fixes for the 2 where simply to do an apt-get upgrade. They worked after that. I didn't do anything special.

I am ok with the fix for the passwords. I can wait for the released version.

I will try to get on irc a little later. I am looking forward to this fix, as I use the car computer for nav, internet radio and music mostly.

I didn;t see the touchscreen bug, I will look and work it out there I hope. If not, again, I will wait for the final release.

Ok, I found the bug and did the setup. Now I have the touchscreen. However everything is opposite. Left is right. up is down etc.

now you can run icetouch and calibrate your screen. After calibration, it should be oriented and accurate.

That's the problem, the axes in icetouch are reversed, and don't recognize my touch. I do a 4 pt. calibration to start, the lower left target flashes on and off, I touch and hold, and the red line counts down the whole way to the lower right. Then the Calibration Terminiated popup comes. Just like I didn't touch it at all. I then hit the ok button. I have installed xerver-xorg-input-evtouch and am using that calibration program to see if it makes a difference. It did, up was up but left was still right. I uninstalled evtouch because I lost left and right mouse buttons on my notebook touchpad. Now retrying icetouch. Well now I the mouse buttons still don't work. Have to do an install again. Installed, no looking an apt-get dist-upgrade -y --forced yes in tty2. I'll let that run through and see what happens. Is this what I think, an upgrade to unbuntu and ice on first boot? I did do an iceupdate, but it came and went pretty quickly. so I though nothing happened. I do see further up a gksu /usr/sbin/ice-update, so I guess I answered my own question.

I hope I'm not taking up too much of your time, I'm trying to learn the ins and outs of this as I go.

Will post more when I do a Symantic Package upgrade, and try icetouch again.

Make sure you only have one touchscreen driver installed at a time when you do calibration. When you do calibrate, touch and hold each "X" until they all disappear. I've done this a hundred times on numerous brands of touchscreens and I've noted the driver to be very consistent. Hope it works out for you.

OK. Reinstalled Linuxice. Upgraded via Package manager and IceUpdate. Ice Configuration again doesn't work. I have recreated NGhost sqllite database 4 or 5 times, and each time it comes back with 1 directory, 1 album and all the songs under that album. Reinstalled eGalax touchscreen stuff, reran icetouch. Still have both axises reversed. Up is down, left is right. I will not recognize the touch to recalibrate.

Audio still doesn't work, although pulse sees it and when I play a song the sound registers on the set volume portion. I also tried earphones to make sure it isn't the speakers.
I think I will wait till Monday and try this all again with a fresh install on the Release package.

I have done this all under windows and RoadRunner, with quite a bit of success, so I do have a clue as to what I am doing. But I am stumped this time.

I will pick up again with the released version and a fresh view.
