    2nd Try

    Hi Again,

    So finally healthy enough to put some time into my carputer, and thus have reinstalled linuxice. Basic install went fine and I was able to upgrade it to 10.04 without issue. However, I have a few things I would like some help with...

    1. Calibrating my touchscreen. It's not an egalaxy like most, but rather a 3M. I have attempted to follow the directions here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1478877 -- But the problem I am noting is that the *box* for pressing (for lack of a better term) is smaller than the screen. About 1/4 of the screen is thus ignored. Even though it's viewable and works with a standard mouse.

    2. I have a AWUS036H USB WIFI adapter. I am unsure of how to configure it. Ifconfig -a does show wlan0 with a HWaddr address. Is there a configuration app for this within linuxice/ubuntu?

    3. I store all my media on an external usb drive, I want to have it mounted to a specific location at every reboot -- without it being added a 2nd time to something like /media/disk. Is this possible?

    I may have others, but these are the one's slowing me down... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Not sure on this one. is there an xorg conf with the calibration values in it that you can tweak?

    nm-applet lives in the top bar if you are running LinuxICE 2.0.1. You configure it just like you would ubuntu.

    Create an entry in /etc/fstab. A drive can only be mounted once, so that should work well.

    No, but I could create one with xorg --config (I think that's right)

    Ok, that was simple (used this site, just incase someone searches for this info -- https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UsingUUID)

    how fast does 10.04 boot for you, just curious? did you try and configure everything when you upgarded to 9.10 to see if the 10.04 kernel is messing with your touchscreen?

    Boot speed seems really good -- haven't timed it yet, but it feels faster than the initial install. And no, I didn't configure everything prior to upgrading to 10.04.

    xorg really screwed up with whatever version is used in ubuntu 10.04 this bug is for the eGalax touchscreen but it may have some affect on other touchscreens as well.

    Well,

    I've been trying to use the drivers from 3M (http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...ScreenDrivers/) -- which I have been able to install.... However, when X starts I get the following error:

    undefined symbol: xf86LoaderReqSymLists (when trying to load the 3M driver).

    I'm guessing this is due to 3M not updating their drivers - but that's just a guess

    So working with google, I found this:

    http://ubuntu-ky.ubuntuforums.org/sh...87&postcount=1

    So working with usbtouchscreen, which noted screen presses/touches out of the box, I had the inverted y axis problem. From the post,

    xinput set-int-prop "3M 3M USB Touchscreen - EX II" "Evdev Axis Inversion" 8 0 1 [sub my monitor in for his]

    Fixed that. However, a problem I had noticed previously was really rearing it's ugly head now -- specifically, inputs (mouse button presses or touchscreen presses) take **FOREVER** to register at times. This isn't consistent, but it can be 20 seconds or more in some cases.

    I still need to calibrate the screen so it reaches all corners of the screen -- and add the xinput lines somewhere so they are done at bootup.

    for the button clicks, mine used to take forever if the computer was busy. is nscan running or do you have a bunch of apps open?

    Nope,

    There is no signs the computer is busy when I pressing buttons....

    Other notes:

    Using the calibration tool referenced from previous link -- I have the following udev rule

    ACTION!="add|change", GOTO="xorg_touchscreen_end"
    KERNEL!="event*", GOTO="xorg_touchscreen_end"
    ATTRS{product}!="3M 3M USB Touchscreen - EX II", GOTO="xorg_touchscreen_end"
    ENV{x11_options.calibration}="1874 14571 2344 13411"
    ENV{x11_options.InvertY}="on"
    LABEL="xorg_touchscreen_end"

    File name: 99_touchscreen.rules

    Rebooting with this file doesn't result in any happiness... Looking in /var/log/udev -- I don't see any reference to 3M or touchscreen, making me wonder if the udev rule was activated at all.

    So, how do I test the rule? What would prevent it from running? Would using xorg.conf.d/*.conf files be a more robust solution? Inquiring minds want to know...

    I have gone to adding the changes to 05-edev.conf in the xorg.conf.d directory:

    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "3M"
    MatchProduct "3M"
    MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
    #Driver "usbtouchscreen"
    Option "InvertY" "on"
    Option "Calibration" "1874 14571 2344 13411"
    EndSection

    which is actually working!!!!
