Nothing I didn't already know. I did, however notice that the alsa mixer service is not started(no check in the box). For some reason I am unable to change the setting(not being given the option to unlock the services to check the box...the button is there but not accessible...help). I think this may be my problem.

Tried to get in from terminal...here is the output.....

Sorry I didn't ask this earlier, what souce does the pulseaudio control app show? The app I am referring too has multiple tabs... (Sorry at work, so can't see it firsthand)

Note: see this post for example of app I am talking about: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...95&postcount=6

Everything is turned all the way up and not muted....

I believe the problem is the system sounds service is not started, but can't access services to start it(only the help button works...go figure) cause the unlock button is not active so I can't get in to change the setting(once again something that worked before not working).

What 'source' is showing on the pulseaudio control panel? (1st tab I believe). Sorry to harp on this -- just want to make sure this isn't the source of the problem...

My sound card IS detected and IS shown as working when playing music...but no sound is being produced to my speakers. My previous post I believe is the problem. How do I get the services unlock button to let me in so I can start system sounds????

Can you show me the following screens?

Also, why are you running things as root?

I asked the simple questions first because ever time I've installed 2.0.1 in a vm, my ION or my intel board, sound has just worked. So either it's something simple like speakers not being hooked up, turned on, or there is something you are doing outside of how the system should normally be used. I also ask because I have no idea how your system is set up or what you've been tweaking with in addition to LinuxICE.

What up Kev! Well first, this may sound silly, but how do I take the screenshots for you in linux so I can do that(been wondering, but been too busy fixing and tinkering with the primary stuff)? Second, whenever I am doing stuff to tweak the system for my needs, I always just cut to the chase and go at it as root(hate when I am coping
and pasting scripts and commands, then it telling me I don't have proper permissions)....I have little patience when I comes to getting things done to my Carpc(after all these months and still not in the car...only been in for test fittings and wiring, thats how I got my bezel pc so perfect). She's got a nice paint job on her too(though not in the pics posted below). But she'll stay on the bench til she is perfect(the major stuff that is). Boot up is slower than it could be because I'm running a 3 second grub screen(got an extra kernel as a failsafe option..2.6.32..gives a vid mode error when first booting but gets the job its there for done but I will fix the error later, and a failsafe recovery mode). I did that because I had to re-install once because my kernel panicked, and I could not recover, nor could I find info on how to recover. That won't be happening again on my system!! I'd rather just have a little longer to wait to boot!!!!

so you've upgraded to 9.10? is that why you have a 2.6.32 kernel?

You shouldn't run things as root since root lives in a different session than everything else. Use "sudo" when needed but try to run everything as a normal user.

For screenshots, install gnome-screenshot. i think it should work.

2.6.32 is the failsafe kernel only(I'm using the ext4 file system), whose only purpose is to get me back in should I ever experience another kernel panic. 2.6.28.17 is the main kernel(tried to use the previous version of the same kernel before upgrade as the failsafe, but somehow it wouldn't add to my grub list menu). Also, I'm not running in a virtual machine(I run Mini XP in the virtual machine, and it is fast). I just really need to know how to turn on the system sounds and my problem will be solved(from the desktop menu choose Apps, then Gnome, then Services). The Unlock button is faded out and not accessible, so I can't check the box to start the system sound service. I am certain that this is the problem. The screens settings you posted are exactly the same on my machine as yours, only with my sound device.

UPDATE: Found a workaround to get in and check the box...still no change...no sound....
