If I add another sound card...do you think my sound will start working?

For some reason I no longer have sound. This is a major issue. Does anyone know how I can remedy this issue without re-installing my whole system? If not I may have to partition and install windows until a solution is found( if I have to go that route LinuxICE2 is gone...I'll just go with a windows system, which I have plenty of experience with, and can solve almost all problems with relative ease and a few clicks of the mouse). Right now windows is running in virtualbox, and LinuxICE2 is the host and dedicated system. I really like my setup as is...but without sound it is useless on too many levels to be of real in car use other than web browsing. So far no one has a solution...not even on the web....at least none that have worked for me. I mainly want my system for music, movies, and navigation. Media player will take care of my music, VLC will take care of my movies, and Garmin PC(can get it off ebay for under $80 with GPS reciever, and its better than navit) would take care of navigation in windows(plus my touchscreen works flawlessly in windows). Really want to stay with LinuxICE2 though cause the interface is on point, but I need results, and this is becoming a headache. Any working solution will be appreciated!!!

Sort of hard to understand what went wrong ...

Did you have sound when you first install Linux?
Could describe what worked and didn't work before this happened?
Are you using the sound from the mobo?

I ask since it could be various issues. Hardware or Software
ie,
software installation spewed on your sound drivers.
Your sound card could have gone south.

I'm using the mobo integrated sound card. All was well until 4 dayz ago. I have no clue what the problem is. When I slide the volume slider up it does nothing. When I leave the screen and return, the slider is back at the mute position. I have LinuxICE perfectly installed finally, now this happens. Every time something goes wrong, its always something I need or don't want to live without. If I were to re-install, It would take too long to get back to where I am. I have re-installed over a dozen times(this is the first time I have ever had a problem with sound though), and it never fails to screw up right when I'm putting the finishing touches on it. Then I spending hours surfing the web looking for ways to try to fix it. The OS is no good if I can't configure it to my needs. All I want is to do is play movies, music, have navigation, and a working usplash so I don't have to look at scripts when booting up(and a virtual machine for XP). That's all, so why is this so hard to accomplish with Linux? Just when I finally get it all right with no issues....boom ...no damn sound! If XP were easier to customize without de-stablizing it, I'd forget Linux altogether. But most of the 3rd party transformation packs always seem to revert after a few reboots, which will not work for me in the car. Linux does not, but getting it setup is like performing brain surgery(and I'm pretty good with computers and following directions). Right now I have two issues...sound and power. Both are becoming a major headache. My install looks very OEM(right down to the Chrysler boot splash I created). No sound totally is gonna be a deal breaker. Still can't get the touchscreen to work properly, but I can live with using my wireless keyboard/mouse combo until I can find a solution...but sound is a MUST have. No one seems to have any idea how to fix this issue. I have tried every suggestion so far, explained in detail what is going on, yet no one seems to be able to help so far. I'm not wanting Windows for my carpc, but I'm beginning to see no alternative. Doing Windows and getting it somewhat close to what I have with Linux is gonna cost me, and I refuse to spend that kind of money for a system that is so virus prone. Originally all I wanted to do was have a video system to go with my audio system. That part of the install is, has been, and still is perfect across the board. The PC is for that extra bling, but these stupid problems just keep on coming back. If I go with XP, I'd be done, but my system would be vulnerable. No amount of malware, spyware, anti virus...etc... will prevent this. Damn hackers have nothing else better to do than mess with peoples PC's. Plus Window sucks the life out of the little resources available to the system, which is another reason. Hate a slow PC.

I get were you are coming from about going to XP.

I am assuming here that you installed Linux and had sound, then installed Ice and had sound.
So ... What did you install or tweek right before you lost sound.

Use a livecd on your system (such as a base ubuntu disk) and check to see if you get sound from that...

I will try that(damn...got to pull it out the dash...again). Was hoping to only have to add the M3 once the replacement gets here. If that works, can I fix from the live cd? If so ...how? All was well until I fixed my virtualbox...darn it...I need virtualbox(to run media player cause LinuxICE2 doesn't support making playlists on the fly, and for running Garmin PC, cause setting destinations in navit is at this point hard to do, if at all possible). Not worth breaking anything else to fix if it does. Already sacrificed google earth cause it wouldn't run correctly on my system(M10000 mobo).

No just my radio(pioneer detachable face am/fm cd player....under the screen in the pic). Gonna get a usb cd drive that will be mounted to the ceiling of my glove compartment later for situations like this! This IS my first carpc install, so I'm learning as I go along as far as necessary hardware is concerned!

Also purchased a 7 port powered USB hub cause I need 3 more for all my stuff(only have 2 now).
