Linux Ice won't install

My aim is have the "best" Linux front end software for my car pc, that does everything.
I assumed LinuxIce would be the one, but I'm now having second thoughts.

I want something that runs like Centrafuse, where I don't have to navigate away from the software to perform another action.

At least this thread has highlighted a huge problem with Ubuntu 10.10 and LinixIce.

Sorry, forgot to say.
On the USB stick is the full 300+mb install of LinuxIce, it has to boot into LinuxIce to be able to install.

linuxice runs great on 9.04 and 9.10. there are not gains to upgrading to 10.04 or 10.10 (except for new hardware support). i upgraded to 9.10 so i could have an audio equalizer. i would highly recommend you grabt he linuxice iso and install from that, it installs in about 10-15 minutes and is ready after that. the linuxice iso is also a livecd, so you can experiment with it. you'll save yourself a lot of pain by using the iso, you haven't even gotten to your touchscreen yet.

I am installing from the ISO. I burned the ISO onto the USB stick, just like you would a CD.

I shall downgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 and see if that makes any difference.

As for the touch screen, I thought the ISO had a driver and software for the touch screen ?

alright, that should be good.

i found the bestexperirence when not trying to upgrade beyond 9.04. unless ts drivers have improved...

you may also want to try out meego. both of these diverge from the concepts of cf and other monolithic frontend in that they are true multitasking environments.

No, I'm afraid it still will not install. I have just about given up with LinuxIce.

I have now downloaded meego and created the USB bootable stick. I was about to go out to the car and test that, but sadly my hands fell upon a bottle of beer first LOL.

I will update when tested.

are you still getting the same error? did the usb stick boot into linuxice at all?
