That attitude will get you either banned, or rejected around here. So quit it. We frown on cross posting 'round these parts.

As to your top post, the only question I see is "how much music will fit on my harddrive". Well a blanket statement is useless. You ever hear of bitrate? It basically is the ratio of size taken up to time of music. So 128kbps is 128 kilobytes for every 1 second of music. But you could record it in 32kbps if you wanted. Or maybe even 512kbps. Obviously you can fit more with a lower bitrate, but it starts to sound like FM radio, then AM radio, then just crap.

So it is not so hard to figure out.

And dont crosspost. And dont get bitter. Especially with a mod.

With a minimal OSX install, i'd say in the neighborhood of ~45GB of music/video.

    Sorry. I couldn't resist

As 2k1 points out, it all comes down to the format, bitrate, and length of song. I ripped all my music as 192kps mp3s which comes to just shy of 30GB for 5107 songs.

this web site did no such thing!

there are absolutely NO restrictions on where a newbie can post.

The amount of video and music you can fit on the 60 gig drive is completely dependant on how many other things you have installed on the drive and how much or little compression you use for the video and audio files.

No one can tell you how good the sound is because we can't hear it in the car.

You will be the only one that can tell us.

It will all depend on your audio system and how you have it hooked up to that audio system.

You need to do a bit more of your own research to answer your own question about if you need a sound card or not. You need to figure out how you're going to go from your computer to the audio in your car. We're not going to figure that out for you.

Use the search, read the FAQ, and read the work logs of other users who have used a MacMini...

Your setup doesn't drive the need for a sound card, your needs do.

Will the Alpine HU stay and the Mini audio run through it? If so, then you probably don't need a sound card.

Are you going to run the Mini directly to the Amps for your speakers? If so, do you need more than left/right balance control? If not, then you don't need a sound card. If so, then you need a sound card.

Is there some function (timing, fade/balance, surround, etc..) on a specific sound card you really want/need? Then yes you need the sound card.

I would advise you start without it and see how well it works and if you are happy first.

I assume that you meant that your touchscreen isn't working? If so and if your Mini is Intel based, then yes you need those drivers. The drivers that come with the screens are the PPC version.

If AMP isn't in the AMP sub-forum, then I don't know where it is. You might post in that sub-forum and as if someone can provide you with a working link.
