I think it looks really cool and want more info about how you did it. How about some more pics and how you put it into the steering wheel?
I spent today disassembling my apple remote and extending the IR LED so it could reach the glove box and then fitting it into my steering wheel. Now i can access front row from by my right hand at the wheel:
What do yo guys think?

Yeah will post some more up, i have to go to work now, so i'll do it tomorrow.
I bet changing the battery is a royal PITA
Nice job, is the LED just pointing out the other side of the wheel or did you run it down the column?

Yes changing the battery will be a pain to change, it'll mean taking the steering wheel apart, but I hope thats not too often.Ideally it would be powered by the car.
Initially I was thinking of just strapping the remote to the wheel and having an IR repeater fitted somwhere on the dash or roof lining, but thought that would look ****e.
And after i took the wheel apart found that it would fit behind one of the spokes.
But fitting it as part of the wheel created more problems; i had to worry about how to get the wiring from the steering wheel to the cowel with it getting tangled up when the wheel is turned. So i wired it via the horn wiring with the cathode of the LED going through the 13v from the horn fuse and the cathode returning via the earth. The wiring is then routed behind the dash to the glovebox.
The LED is then proffessionally duck taped to the IR receiver, until i fit it correctly.
Will post some picks in the afternoon as i am currently wasting work time writing this.
Glad you guys like it.
Nice mod, does your horn not work now?
it works fine, the 13v shouldn't affect the remoteas there is no potential difference
Looks very nice. I was thinking about something similar, except I wanted to use a wireless mouse instead of Apple Remote (I like the scroller on steering wheel as used by Bentley :-) ).
