    He's running safe-sleep, so it sounds like the power button is functioning properly but the PSU is cutting out.

    ^ that is exactly what is happening. I added the safe-sleep hack so I wasn't rebooting every time but I would like to be a bit faster on startup but the PSU keeps shutting down no matter what setting I use so I guess I'm just going to have to suck it up and wait. It will probably be another year when it gets updated.
