    Internet anywhere help?

Looking for a way to get internet anywhere on my mac in my car, such as driving down the highway, and not from just places like mcdonalds or some hotel free wifi points.

Here are a couple of discussions about it:

You didn't mention whether price was important or not or whether you already have a cell phone with a data plan.

I recommend Millenicom - $49 a month / Franklin USB card works great with my macbook pro / no contract / they basically resell Sprint's EVDO Rev A network. Currently on the highway right now (of course, I am not driving)

They haven't had modems for almost 2 months now.

According to their recent correspondence with me , they are waiting for a new "device" that they designed themselves and then they will offer the service again for $49.99 a month.

Among the modifications we are making with our
service will be a new device (pending FCC approval).

When we return to taking orders the cost will be $49.99, unlimited, no
contract and our service will cover the Western Hemisphere, possibly
global. It will be necessary to purchase the device and we haven't
arrived at the cost yet (between $49.99 and $99.99).

That's a great deal - $49 a month with no contract! I've been on a Sprint EVDO contract for almost two years, but am paying $59 a month. Works great with a Kyocera KR-1 router and a PC Card.

When the contract is up I'll probably get a USB device and a new plan. I've seen one or two ebay sellers who also offer the Sprint service for $49 a month.

Watch out for Evdoforums.com. They censor posts because they only sell Sprint and Verizon. If you comment about Millenicom (which evdoforums parent company, 3GStore.com, doesn't sell) they will immediately delete your post. If you post something negative about 3GStore, they will delete it.

That being said, that's too bad they are out of modems. I got mine about 3 months ago, it's the CDU-680 Franklin with integrated GPS.

If you also have an iPhone, check out iTunes' App Store and look for "NetShare". It lets you share your cellular connection with your Mac. I wouldn't use it heavily, though, as you may alert the Death Star (AT&T) of a possible TOS violation.

I have purchased NetShare, but I have NOT tried it out yet. I've read configuring it can be an "interesting" experience, but most people seem to get it working. YMMV. It looks like incorporating the iPhone into my install might pay off better than expected.
