ok so I have been browsing these forums for a bit and have my heart set on installing a mac setup in my 2006 Pontiac G6. My girlfriend however doesnt like idea of the mac because she doesnt want it in the glove box and she doesnt like the way it "looks like a computer" (shes talking about the desktop screen on the monitor)
Ive been trying to find a cool front end that will make it look more like a multimedia system and less like a computer but all the things i have found are out of date. As well I am not very good at the car modification aspect of this and am not sure if anyone thinks its possible to fit the mac elsewhere a little more accessible? (in dash?) she wants to buy a new stereo and a built in screen...
any help would be appreciated so i can hopefully win her over

haha ok so right after i posted this i found the sub forums in this forum and then some other info... which i somehow completely overlooked before. Anyway my gf loves the look of streetdeck so thats cool. and i think she's cool with a hiding screen, so i can win her with that too(any recommendations on a good screen?)
but i still need a good place to put the mac...
Never even thought about testing them at home. thanks will try that.
Well, the Mini is tiny so there is bound to be a spot to put it in your car. Check under the seat. If there is enough clearance, that is a likely spot. If not, it won't take much room in your trunk. Most trunk installs have extended the VGA cable up front without interference.
Go to the "Show Off Your Project" forum and search on "Mac" to see where others have put their Minis.
Screens: Lilliput or Xenarc are the most popular. The new Lilli 629 with the LED's for backlight is supposed to be quite bright.

Thank you for all your help, my girlfriend is sold on the mac
Looks like we're planning on getting a motorized screen since that will require the least amount of work being done to the center console (im more of a computer person than a car person). We're also gonna see if its possible to fit the mac into the center arm rest as its out of sight but still easily accessible.
wont be getting it all done for a little while though. still have a lot of learning to do.
When it is finished though I will definetly post the pics.
Have you heard anything about the XENARC MDT-X7000? Its quite pricey but is loaded with features, is it worth it in your opinion?
I would think an 8" touchscreen would fit nicely in the dash or at least a 7". I think they look much better than a motorized screen but that's just me. Show your girl some pics of other people's installs and see if she likes it or not.
i think we would both prefer a built in display, the problem is that i have no experience in modifying. So if we were to do that i would have to pay someone to install it which im guessing would cost a lot of money. plus we need to fit in an am/fm somewhere. girlfriend would die without the radio.
Damn i wanna die everytime i have to listen to the radio.
I'd actually pay someone to remove my radio. Thank God for satellite radio.
