lets just say I gave 2 ways to get a QT Pro serial, and one was free . No I didn't post a serial and no i didn't tell him how or where to get one.

Note that as a developer I do not support software piracy. I don't even know why I said it. Thinking aloud I suppose...

Just to confirm. I paid for the Product key through the mac store. I try to make sure that everything I do is legal.

Oh, OK. With the discussion of Handbrake and other ripping tools, I was wonder if they were being considered "warez" now.

Upgrading QT Pro is the first thing I do when I buy a new Mac. At $30, QT Pro is cheap enough, but I think it should come free with a new Mac. Another thing I don't like about QT Pro is this: when Apple decides to roll out QT 8.0, you'll have to repurchased QT. Boo!

couldn't agree more. however the next version of QT will be QT X not 8, but you are probably right about having to purchase it again, that I don't agree with.

That's really lame. I guess I will not be updating my QT for a while.

Well, there is a precedent. Many manufacturers charge you an upgrade fee, but it's usually not the full price of the software, which the QT upgrade will probably be.

Another screwy thing: if you upgrade QT 6 Pro to QT 7, you lose the Pro upgrades. There's probably a way to revert back to QT 6 Pro, but they don't make it easy on you, if I recall correctly.
