Thread: AVI in Itunes

I don't think iTunes likes avi movies. Whenever I used to add avi movies to iTunes, it started converting them to mp4 or something, but even this didn't seem to happen when I tried it last in iTunes 7. But it is Mac, I think you might be able to find some sort of add-on to make it work.

You can use a program like Handbrake or MPEG Streamclip to convert the AVIs to H.264 or MPEG 4 for use in iTunes. You can also use this hint: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...51013124423475 to use them without re-encoding. I think you need QuickTime Pro to do it. That should create a pointer that NBB can use from the iTunes library, but NeonDev would have to confirm that.

I use iSquint to convert from AVI to MP4. Works fine.

Get MetaX to add metadata.

as long as there is an entry in the iTunes.XML file NBB doesn't give a crap about where the movie is or what format it is in as long as it is playable in QT player, meaning that you have the proper QT codecs installed and it is not protected

edit: that trick should work by the way. if you are willing to buy a QT pro serial, itunes should accept the movie reference and all shall be well

Well I downloaded Isquint. Nice program and it is fixing my issue with the one series of cartoons I could not get to play in QT. Only problem is it take forever. "RealTime"

Well at that rate it's going to take me several weeks to ecode everything so I'm going to go the QT Pro route for the rest.

Thanks for that link. It was a great help. After the right up someone posted a better way to do this exchange and minimize the reference files. So that worked like a charm and I was able to keep all my Movie files on my External HD. The Mac MINI I bought only has an 80 GB HD so I added a WD 320 GB HD. Very small but big power. Same size as an Iphone 3G but a little thicker then the first gen Iphone.

I will mount that right in with my Mac Mini.

Ok off for some Zs while Isquint converts the rest.

I just use QT Pro to convert AVI to an iTunes format. Don't bother with Elgato's Turbo.264 … it's a waste of money for modern Macs. It only saves me fractions of a minute typically over QT Pro alone and the results are buggier. A great way to spend $100, huh?
