Do i need a front end??

ok, probably a noob question, but if i have a trackpad in my console, can't i just use the dock, and maybe a powermate/nuLOOQ to control volume and track switching stuff? Are frontends more for people with touchscreens?

Driving safely and operating a trackpad at the same time are inconsistent with each other.

That said, you don't have to have a front end. Most people use them because they make operating the computer on the road easier.

generally front-ends look a bit nicer and package needed functions together in an easy to use consistent way and makes it appear to be more than somebody just sticking a computer in their car...

the answer to your question is probably best answered by you downloading some of the front ends here and see how you feel about them. If you feel they enhance your in car experience then yes you should have one, otherwise no.

I set up some shortcuts on my Powermate to engage the iTunes visualizer full screen whenever I wish, so I just use iTunes.
