what is this community doing for turn by turn GPS

How many people are booting in Bootcamp with Windows XP, and running PC software in the car? Is there a possibility of linking a frontend on the OSX side to parallels and iguidance or something like that? Just wonderin what people are doing on the mac mini these days, as itunes is getting really dull for me, after looking at all the neat stuff going on for windows Car PC's

I'm booting straight to XP, no bootcamp required. I tried running Amp, and while it's very functional for music, there's no turn by turn GPS, no sat rad support. I tried running Road Runner via both Parallels and VMWare Fusion, didn't work very well.

There are more frontend options for OSX now than there was a year ago. As far as I know there still isn't a viable turn by turn GPS option for OSX.

a good gps is hard to come by on the mac side. the only real mac gps solution is routebuddy, but is not ready for in car use. qcar has navigation up and running within the front end itself, but they have went through great pains to get it to work. that is the biggest problem on the mac side is the relatively small developer pool, which means slower development work which means vaporware products. there are some hackish ways of getting gps to work such as caching google maps/earth and then running running that, but really the experience is not that great.

I've gone the Bootcamp and Windows XP route, using the Centrafuse XLE nav front end. Works quite well, just have it out at the moment improving some of the cabling for the feed to the amp.
I've cut down the windows boot time using nlite and am currently seeing if it's possible to reduce the time it takes for the mac mini to boot up.

I have been trying to figure out how to make the Windows boot faster on my mini to. I have not trired Centrafuse yet, how does it compare to bootcamp , native boot, or parallels, dual system software

I've been toying around with a new Tom Tom that I got for my birthday. It has a mode that lets you operate the Tom Tom when you plug it into the USB port. I haven't tried it in the car yet, but I'm thinking that maybe I can run the Tom Tom software on the Mac in the car.

I had parallels originally but found it too memory hungry. Much happier using bootcamp.

Well I know for performance, Bootcamp was developed by apple, for speed. it is a single operating system on boot up rather than the dual system software boot up of OS x and Parallel. Thus for games on Intel Macs, usually you boot in Bootcamp and Windows for performance.
