Hauppauge vs. Elgato - which one to get??

    Hello,

Is any one using (or ever used) Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-900 with Mac Mini? http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/prod...hvr900mac.html
I've never used this type of device before, so seeking some advise. What's the difference between WinTV-HVR-900 and EyeTV DTT? I know that Hauppauge one comes with EyeTV Lite software - so, is this the device or the software that actually matters? Cheers!!!

I have the EyeTV Hybrid for the US. The EyeTV software (now on version 3) has matured greatly and is very capable and stable. I don't know what the Lite version removes and I haven't used the Hauppauge tuner, so I can't render an opinion on it, but I certainly can recommend the EyeTV as a satisfied user.
Any day is a good day for golf.

I had the EyeTV hybrid as well, never had the pleasure of EyeTV 3 tho. shortly before it was released I moved and we got DirecTV (girlfriend works for em) and a DVR etc. Anyhow It was awesome for use with comcast, but It didn't really do any good with the satellite, nor would it pick up digital HD. ended up giving the Eye TV to my dad.

I hope someday to go back to using one (with digital HD), and i definitely recommend the sotware.

Thanks NeonDev, glofguy for the input.

Can any one tell me does it (EyeTV) interface with FronRow? I hard somewhere that after installing (don't know exactly what) or issuing some command in the terminal, it adds up another row in FrontRow main menu for the TV - is it true? I popped into our local Mac store and found out they don't even know exactly EyeTV works (but says: it works pretty well, we are selling a number of them every month ).

I'm probably interested in EyeTV DTT, which doesn't come with a remote. Any one knows how to use Apple remote with that? Cheers!!!

there was a plugin for front row some time ago but I don't think it works with front row 2 or later... I was never successful in using it and the interface was clunky at best. I don't recall what it was called either. the apple remote could be used by mapping its buttons to key presses (again i don't recall the name of the software) it is entirely possible that elgato has built in support for the apple remote as well. If not they should cuz it is super easy i can tell you from exp.

It's explained on their site, I never use it but if you click longer on menu button of the apple remote and you go in the full screen Eye TV menu

Anyone from UK out here using EyeTV Hybrid (2008)? It keeps skipping ITV, Channel 4 and a few FM station, including London Heart, Magic etc. Anyone else seeing the same? Cheers!!!
