    New Update breaks Bluetooth

    Hi All,
first "general" Mac post for me.

I have a Mac Mini PPC Leopard 10.5.8 which I'm setting up for car use. Just installing + Testing front ends at the moment to get the interface right before I do the install.

I recently decided to allow some updates from apple, one of which was called 2009-006 Security update.

Long story short, since the update; if I have my BT keyboard connected, the MAC won't shut down. Sleep is OK. If I connect a USB keyboard it's ok too - just not the BT one.

Found only one other forum mentioning this, and since not many people have said anything, thought I'd put it here as a head's up for others. One of the 'patches' in the update is a bluetooth keyboard "security" patch which "Prevents elevated access to Bluetooth keyboard firmware update".

That's strange, I'll have to test this and I'll get back to ya....

Q: Which BT KBoard are you using, Mac KBoard?

    Logitech diNovo Mini

    works fine as a keyboard/mouse.

I see on the apple forums, there's a few people with similar problems with the Mac magic mouse -but that's connection related, not shutdown..

I did that same update, and bluetooth broke; a couple reboots fixed it for me. For some reason, the bluetooth icon on the top bar had a bolt through it and wouldn't turn on, but it's working again now.

i have a late 2006 macbookpro and a early 08 macbookpro, both of which i have run the update on. My older mbp gets the bluetooth-bolt logo while my newer one does not. The problem though is that my older one will periodically have this happen and then after reboot it goes away. im not exactly sure that it was the update that did it.

Yeah, this is an early-ish MBP. [it's the first 15.4" they released after they moved to dual-core chips with virtualisation extensions - so, "second gen" maybe?].

I did some further investigation.. If I turn off the BT before shutting down, then it's all ok.
then I have to manually turn on the BT again once restarted

a bit annoying, but a workaround I think. might have to write a script that does this each time, unless Apple come up with a better solution.
