yeah the xmod is nice. I have one that i am using with my mbp until i have/find somewhere to mount it in the car. It makes a huge difference in sound quality, and it can simulate 5.1 which is nice for laptop maybe not so much in the car. it is a very good unit either way.

So is the Xmod is a better choice over the Edirol UA-1EX even though you have to split the signal from the Xmod whereas the Edirol outputs analog left and right?

i don't know anything about that other one. I can only speak for the xmod and how it sounds for me. I guess one with separate left and right channels theoretically would be better, but for my needs a standard headphone jack output works just fine. I guess if you had a four channel amp with a left and right input then you prob would be better off with a sound car that has the same setup. Either way i can't imagine them sounding worse than the stock mini's sound card. Either way let us know what you ultimately decide and how it sounds in your setup!
