Yikes! That's a lot of money. I checked the online store and it's $75 to upgrade to 512mb but $325 to jump to 1 gig. I presume it's the chip cost since the mini has only one slot for mem?
The $599 version doubles the hard drive to 80 and bumps the processor speed for the extra $100. Okaaaay, but a little marginal in my opinion.
Fortunately, the base $499 model will perform just fine in car usage.

They also dropped the bluetooth and wi-fi upgraded to only $99 extra...it was like $130
