    cellphone in iDash?

    Hi all,

Today i came across this little programme: BluePhoneElite
It has some nice features like turning iTunes down when there is an incomming call.
I think, for incomming calls, it can submit some safety for the driver, when the caller name and ability to answer the call appears on the (touch)screen.
But for making a call it still isn't easy to find a number and dial it.

    For the developers:
Do you think is is possible to make a kind of a list which you can scroll down and then simply push a dial button?

BluePhoneElite looks pretty neat actually. It even has support for running an AppleScript when a call starts ringing, finishes ringing, and finally ends. Either incoming or Outgoing, and according to other filters as well.

What it doesn't seem to have is scriptability. That is, it can run scripts to tell other applications useful things, but BluePhoneElite itself doesn't accept instructions.

Doesn't mean its impossible and the application is still beta so the developer is likely receptive to feature requests. Given some way of talking to the application it seems fairly trivial.

I've already talked to the developers of BluePhoneElite. They plan on including Applescript support with their 1.0 release in a month or two, about the same time we expect to have a usable version of iDash. Don't fret!

Just my 2cents on this topies, i went to the acura dealer the other day and to try out their bluetooth OEM system. I just have to say it is a really good unit. but it will not sync with the client phone address book at all. and the limit in the car is only 50.

If we can intergrade the bluetooth phone and use it with the mac address book then it will be awsome. and show what mac can really do :P

iSync and address book already have the features you are looking for.

Perhaps a more touchscreen-in-car-suitable interface to AddressBook.app is what is required.

So with this BluePhoneElite, if a mic is plugged into your Mac, could you actually answer the call through the mic and speakers? Like a handsfree kit? That would be extremely useful for standard transmission drivers for myself, and I don't want to add a separate Pelican system on top of the Mac, which could cause quite the confusion of Bluetooth, if not for the computer than most certainly for me.

I have used Bluetooth phone elite for sometime on my desktop Mac. It does not allow you to use any audio through your mac. According to the apps website this may be possible when Tiger comes out. Great aplication and FREE.. Best app for recent Motorola phones.

For Macs Sony Erricson Phones are the best, espicially when used witih Salling Clicker . I currently have a moto phone, but plan to get a Sony to use with my project.

A cool thing I think is possible with applescript/Salling clicker would be to use the phone to check if the computer is on then shut it off or put it to sleep from a distance. Also when in bluetooth range, wake from sleep so it is ready to go by the time you reach your car.

Cellphone integration is going to be a big part of my project. I'm just starting (still have to get my mini )

That's a shame, my GTI is stick, and I hate digging around in my pockets when my phone goes off, cause I always end up having to shift at least once during that time.

I was also thinking about this, and you wouldn't even have to to Salling Clicker, maybe just if it senses that your phone came into range. Now if only we could hook it up to the central locking system, and use Salling Clicker for a remote start or something.

I am in the same boat here, as well, as I plan to purchase a Sony Ericsson T637, and a Mini once I get my student discount in addition to my required iBook, and am in the planning stages at the moment. Still being in the planning stages, I can't stop thinking about the possibilities available with this combo. It's a shame you drive a mk3 (unless you plan on running this in your Cabby) and I got a mk4 or we could have exchanged placement ideas... Oh well.

Currently, you can't use OS x's mic and speakers, but this will be a supported feature in 10.4

This looks like a very cool program, anyone know of a similar PC program? Specifically, the proximity stuff is the most appealing to me. I have a couple macs at work, but I do most of my computing on a laptop w/ bluetooth right now.
