Anyway if you were on ebay awhile back (and maybe even now) people would say they had info on how to get Macs on the CHEAP, for the mere price of $5.
Well Ill tell ya, im bored and I just remembered so I figgered Id give it to the mp3car community and let em run with it.
If you are (or know someone who is) a student and over 18 you can be a "Apple Student Developer" for $99/yr. If yer not a student, dont bother you have to prove it AND it otherwise costs upwards of $500-$3000/yr.
With this you get a ONE TIME hardware purchase from the Developer store. I know a few Apple employees and have seen the prices they get and this is the same discount. Of course you save more on the higher priced models and it does cost $99 to get the discount so right off the bat yer $99 off yer discount. BUt on a high end G4 or G5 you can save $500. Well worth it.

then read and signup.

There are slightly better discounts through the Federal Employee purchase program. For example, the basic Mac Mini sells for $499 reg price, $474 through the Student Developer thing, and $469 through the Fed Employee program.
Apple clearly states that the program is for personal use or for family members or friends here. So, if you have an uncle, sister, friend, or brother-in-law in the military or other government service (or contractor), they can do the ordering for you and you wouldn't have to pay a fee to get the discount.
