damn tootin.
DocNupe, you treat this issue like it's your God-given right to have a good GPS program on the Mac. It's getting tiresome.
Here's some advice: create your own company and make your own superior Mac GPS program.

Damn, i'm a way for a few days, and this crap is flying around. Keep it up and you can win a free ride out of here with some PMs to the admins.
Back to the "discussion":
Its not apple's responsibility to do GPS...its software developers. They choose which language to develop it in...some allow portability, others don't. As others have said, to them its all about profitability.
Until Macs become known with cars and the perferred OS to use for navigation, then its Route 66 only. Its all about supply and demand. right now we are just little voices in a see of opportunity. Its a matter of anybody decides to lissen to us to actually do it.

MDLarson, God-given right to have GPS software, ummmn no???? But just as we had games ported to the Macintosh 6 years ago (PM and I can forward the macworld announcement from Steve Jobs via Quicktime), the same can be said for the necessity of having GPS and Ibus programs ported to macintosh today to boost sales of the MacMini. Also, I assure if making my own company to help Apple sell PC's was what I really wanted to do, then I would do it. Comment not appreciated, really!
As for the topic at hand, profitability, ummmmn do you really think it was profitable for Bungie to port PC games to Mac, to sell a fraction of the copies that were sold of the regular PC versions, so Steve Jobs could sale Imacs? I would venture to say it was not and it was more of a benefit to Apple (I believe Apple paid Bungie a lot to do this, I could be wrong though). Same thing applies to GPS software ported to Macintosh
Macintosh will never be the preferred platform, but they can gain a larger share of the market with a few strategy changes. Furthermore, it seems like changes are at hand as we speak. Multiple GPS programs will be released within the next year for the Tiger OS
Bah, why do people think that forums are a place to ***** at eachother, thats the playground. Go to it children. sheesh

Actually, Bungie did Mac games only, ported one game to the PC (Marathon 2), and then went simultaneous PC / Mac releases.Originally Posted by DocNupe

Hang on a sec, guys! PLEASE can we not turn yet another forum into an OS and PC bash-fest? We can all find our fill of those in other places.
DocNupe - I was seriously trying to answer your question. In case it matters, I've owned and used Macs exclusively since they quit making the Atari ST back in the late 1980's. I love them, but I'm also conscious that Apple users come across as nuts a lot of the time and the conversation often degenerates into name-calling.
Your question actually got me to thinking about why these things aren't ported over more often. I guess I went overboard when the ideas started flowing.
One of the things I like about the MP3car forums is not a whole lot of elitism and bashing takes place because there's lots of ways to get a car pc in your car. Hopefully that will continue around here.
