NSMovieView has been replaced with QTMovieView because the QTKit (of which the QTMovieView is part) gives you much more control over the movies from Cocoa.

I am not sure how you were dealing with the movie before (AppleScript Studio application?), but it does not appear that QTMovieView itself supports AppleScript... What you can do is to bind standard Cocoa controls (ie buttons, sliders) to QTMovieView actions and outlets. You migth be able to create simple player without any coding. If not, you can still script the controls... By the way - QuickTime Player is still scriptable.

I actually do not think that AppleScript is a good way of doing the front-end (since we have Cocoa ;-) ), but if you disagree, have a look at FaceSpan - http://www.facespan.com - it is quite nice RAD tool for AppleScript. I used to work a lot with previous versions and done some quite large projects in it.

I attempted doing things with the QTKit but couldn't get the syntax to work with applescript and couldnt find documentation so I think you are right. I may try and bind it but didn't have much luck when I tried last time. I went ahead and put in a NSMovieView that is working pretty well for now. I do agree about applescript but it makes a usable FRONTEND. My problem is that some people seem to want more than just a frontend which would need more cocoa programming(which my brother is starting to learn but we have no experience with) or another language. Thanks for the input though I think we will have a good usable program it just isnt necessarily fitting the needs or wants of everyone. We are starting to think about moving to cocoa but it wasn't simple enough when we started(we hadn't really planned for it to go this far). Thanks for the link too.

Thanks raceer!! There has been progress but we ran into some bumps. We may try and rework the program with cocoa/objective-c rather than applescript as the program seems to be growing. More soon....

    Good idea

From my v.limited knowledge this looks like a good way to proceed...given the flexibility this affords..while potentially slower until one comes upto speed if will pay off in the long term...plus you will potentially have a more marketable skill at the end of it :-)

Again keep up the good work !!

Btw. if using the latter would it be a good idea to have a look at some of the great work that benjamin was doing on ccar ? may be an idea to pool resources...just a thought...
