    Jirka,
I have been running Tatra for a little while now, and I have a few questions.
Is there some logging element? I am getting occassional crashes, and would like to be able to report the issues via a log file.
Is there volume control within the app? I am having a hard time finding one? I have rigged my steering wheel to control volume for now through applescript, but would prefer to do it within tatra.
How can i quit Tatra when running without a keyboard?

    thanks,
    avidan

    ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/TatraApp.crash.log

I would really like to see it. I have not had a single crash in months in the car and very few during testing (there was some memory-related bug in online services module).

there is no volume control. I control the volume using my head unit. You can easily write a module with "+" and "-" buttons that will increase/decrease system volume using AppleScript.

You can't really... Since the app was designed as primary "shell" it only gives you the option of turning the computer off. You can get around this by writing a simple AppleScript (like "tell app "TatraApp" to quit), save it as application and then assign it to one of the definable buttons in the "System" module.

I am still sitting in Russia and have not had any time in recent week to work at the application. Hopefully before next week I will have a version which will offer more flexibility in skinning and some other minor improvements (trip computer module and maybe even a first implementation of generic GPS receiver input module).

Sounds good. I will get you the Log asap. I setup the volume controls like you said, and they work quite well.

Many thanks. I know one of the issues - you are using an older version of the MP3 player which uses JJScrollText instead of standard NSTextField. There is some memory-related bug in -setStringValue: implementation of this class. I have temporarily switched to standard text field and should have this issue resolved soon. I suppose the problem occurs when a long text (scrolling, implemented by bitmap redrawing) is being replaced by a short one (where the standard -drawRect: of NSTextField is used to draw the field).

If you can have a look and fix this yourself, please let me know what exactly it was.

    --EDIT --
OK - so where can I find the latest and greatest source for the whole project? I was playing around with a precompiled version I found but it is from June 2004. Still looked very slick! Thanks
    --EDIT--

Never mind. I just started from the beginning and downloaded the patches found on this thread, and can now compile and run. Very nice.

Jirka, does your GPS module know how to read NMEA 0183 data straight off a serial port? I wonder if it would work with a 'standard' gps mouse that spits out this standard data (USGlobalSat BU-353).

I've been messing with it here in the house and now I'm gonna go drop it onto the car's mac to see how it looks.

I haven't used TatraApp for a long time, but I recently found myself with an extra mini lying around so I bought a touch screen and I am going to make another car setup.
My question is, Jirka, how hard would it be to make this app more touch screen oriented? Right now I am making a module with AppleScript buttons that send the commands, but I would like to have the whole thing touchable.

    Howdy,

I've been playing with TatraApp for a few weeks and I'm looking at adding some modules. A few questions I've had:

    1. Is there an updated version of the source? Currently I'm using MainApp from http://homepage.mac.com/jirka.jirout...p-20050917.tgz, MP3Player from http://homepage.mac.com/jirka.jirout...r-20050917.tgz, and the rest of the modules from http://homepage.mac.com/jirka.jirout...2005-07-24.tgz.

    2. What license are you releasing the source under? One module I would like to add is a GPS module supporting NMEA and gpsd, based on the GPLd code in KisMAC. This may or may not be possible, depending on the license.

    3. Is there any documentation for the input data types? I've partially implemented the GPSMonitor module, but some data (such as fix type, number of satellites) isn't sent by the GB600 module so I can't copy it's dictionary keys. I want to make sure any work I do is interoperable with the existing code.

As soon as I have working code, I'll post it back here.

    Tristan

    Tristan,
Thanks for reviving this thread. I had to leave the MacCar world for a little, since my car got totalled. I have since bought a new car, which has a Nav, but I am working with some guys in Germany to get VGA-on-Nav. Once I have the VGA working, the Mac Mini is going back in the bimmer. I think that TatraApp would be great, since I wont have a touchscreen (it annoyed me when I had it anyway). Well, either TatraApp or FrontRow
Jirka, have you made any changes to the App recently?
    thanks.
