    Hmm...ideas about what? Use it!

I don't know for sure of anyone with one installed, but I am _going to_ install one. Mine is a G3 500Mhz...mostly. It is a bare logic board I got super-cheap...add a DC board, battery, hdd and xenarc and viola! Using a laptop makes powering super-easy -- just need a auto adapter and wire that in (or use the lighter), plus it allows for great "boot times" in that it can be set to sleep on its own battery and not need to boot every time. The way I see it, even though my battery is less than perfect, I won't have to actually boot unless it crashes (oh yeah...forgot, it's a mac ) or maybe if I leave it parked for a very long (I've let it sleep for about a week without the battery giving out) time.

Not without its cons however...my biggest issues are that I can't push 800x480 for the xenarc (but that can be worked-around for the main UI...just a problem if I'm using "normal" applications), and the processor power leaves a little to be desired (would be nice to be able to run VirtualPC for a decent GPS proggie). All in all it ought to be a nice little system...now just need to get the time to actually assemble it all, glass in my screen, write a UI, debug the UI...

I assume your's is a complete laptop, so it could be made so that it is removeable which could be nice, or you could even strip it and sell the unneeded bits off on eBay; I bet you'd get a decent amount for a good condition LCD at least.

I currently have Tiger running on it...definitely want more memory, 128mb doesn't cut it...oh well that is the easiest part

    Maybe that helps...

I have an old one of these at work here that I could use it is 550mhz and looks to be about 17gb Hdd, all I want is to manage some mp3's watch an occasional DVD and run GPS, is this capable of doing all that because it seems pretty slow and don't know how well it would handle the gps

I have one too and I'm planning on doing an install with it, however are you guys sure there is no way to get an external display to show 800x480?

On iMac and iBook, Apple has blocked the option to have screen Spanning (extended desktop) and only allow screen mirror.

There is an utility that unlock this option

I have try it on an iMac 20" and it worked well.
Be careful before using it and read the list of supported machines.

Minuo is not lucky because the 500 MHz is not supported but maybe SilentSnake09's iBook is.

You will still need DisplayConfigX to create the resolution 800*480

MacVroom will help you to configure it for the Xenarc.

Also, I know that the powerbook can be use with the lid close but I am not sure if the iBook can do the same. It probably can (look in Apple support site).

I saw two cars with iBook installed. One created a box between the seat to hide the iBook the other was a more temporary installation.

    Good Luck
