Since this is the only good software for us mac users maybe we can keep a list of non-usable hardware configurations. can you post what you are using for GPS?

I think it's a winner! I've been playing with it on my desktop for several months, but I don't have a mac installed in my car yet, so I haven't tried it with a GPS unit.

I mostly run it to find directions for long trips where it can take several hours to plot a route between Omaha and Chicago on my G4 450DP. I think I read that it hadn't been optimized for long trips yet on the Roadnav website. It would be nice if I could save routes (we take the same ones a lot) so that we wouldn't have to re-compute the routes each time and also so that I could sync routes between my desktop and car-mac so the car mac is ready to go as soon as we boot Roadnav. It's also slow when changing zoom levels on my machine (which is no speed demon by any means).

I do plan to try using it as my primary GPS program in-car and am very impressed with how easy it is to use and how good the maps are!

maybe I installed it wrong? It seems to freeze up on me? Did you have to download any additional maps or drivers?

Edit: I take this back! I downloaded the new version of RoadNav and it seems to work with my device now. At least I think so. I'm indoors right now on my home system and it says that it sees the GPS but has no lock. I'll call that success.

BTW, it's a Royaltek Sapphire generic NMEA unit.

When I have it generate a long route the Roadnav interface seems to freeze, but the program is doing the routing in the background, once it's done the spinning pinwheel goes away. This doesn't affect other apps, but it can take a very long time (hours) depending on the distance. YMMV.

The author had also released a library version of the program, so I think you could add Roadnav's capabilities to your own front end... If only I knew how to program

Someone here knows how to program, and I am sure with all the Mac programming Gurus we can get this done
