I only had problems with keeping the default resolution when I was using the settings I found here and there on the internet. When I took time and created my own settings, all problems went away. Will try to post them, so you can give it a try.
Actually ignore the above - everything seems to have stabilised now and there is no more flickering.
But does anyone know how to keep the 800 x 480 as the default res - my Mac defaults to a much higher resolution upon reboot and I can't get it to default to the 800 x 480.

Thanks Jirka - that would be much appreciated.
I looked into the cscreen option but it looks like the instructions on MacVroom are slightly incorrect because I can't get the directories set up correctly when following their instructions.
Seems incredible that there is not a simple way to change the default setting to a low resolution. I read that a number of tests for appropriateness of the setting are done on startup and if any of the test fail a "safe" default is chosen instead.
Bump!
Jirka - any chance you could let me know those settings? It would be much appreciated.
Sorry for the delay, here you go:
The thing is naturally set as Timing...
Horizontal:
- Active: 800
- Front porch: 32
- Sync: 56
- Back porch: 136
Vertical:
- Active: 480
- Front porch: 2
- Sync: 3
- Back porch: 92
Refresh rate: 60.015 Hz
If this does not work for you, just go to the DisplayConfigX page, read the basics of how it works and experiment. And you may need to adjust the image position using the display's on-screen menu. In case you have two Macs, enable the ssh login on the one te screen is connected to - in case of problems, you can go in using ssh and delete the files generated by DisplayConfigX - much easier than having to go to single user mode etc.
Thread name changed to make it easier to find with a search.

That's great thanks Jirka.
I've made the adjustments but I am thinking that I need to set the first page also as the DisplayConfigX notes say that these must be correct.
I've searched all over the net for these specs but they really don't seem to be anywhere.
Can you tell me what you used on the first page (Monitor)?
I have had no luck getting 800x480 on my lilli eby701 and intel mac mini core duo. I hope your settings will work for me Jirka.
CaptainTrap - I think it is important to get the "Monitor" page setting correct also. Unfortunately there seems to be no information out there on what the Lilliputs specs are.
We are going to be reliant on Jirka or someone else who has successfully implemented the lower resolution telling us what they entered for the first page.
