Question Having trouble getting Tiger on a Lombard PowerBook

    I got a G3 powerbook 320mb mem 5gb hard disk

    - I know tiger will run on it - but - My unit has no firewire-
no DVD drive - So I thought - I will use disk utility to clone
the drive on a G3 desktop - buy taking the laptops drive out and
putting it into a USB adapter - thats all I got on hand - I can
get a laptop to desktop IDE hard disk adapter at work - I may
    have to use it

    - I tried to bless the drive with - TIGER2 is the USB drive -

sudo bless -folder "/Volumes/TIGER2/System/Library/CoreServices" -bootinfo "/usr/standalone/ppc/bootx.bootinfo" -label "TIGER2" -setBoot -verbose

and got it to boot a little - but it stops at a blank blue screen
and looks like its trying to load something

I am not that good at linux/bsd commandline stuff - and think
my command is not right - any ideas

I tried to reset the pram and all that -

I gess, all there is left to do, is put the laptop drive on the
IDE bus of the desktop and do a install

for 10.00 apple will exchange your disks and give you a good set of CD-rom install disks, there might even be some on ebay so look around. But you first might want to check you have enough memory and all the other system requierments.

Its a unsuported model - only because it lacks firewire and DVD drive,
some have upgraded to DVD drives and used a cardbus fireware card
and got it to work on the same model as mine

and there is a 400mhz with DVD and firewire - with the same
motherboard but it has a DVD decoder chip

so the hardware will work -

I got it to boot to the desk top in safe mode

    and found out that

sudo bless -folder /Volumes/TIGER2/System/Library/CoreServices -bootinfo /Volumes/TIGER2/usr/standalone/ppc/bootx.bootinfo

should be enough to bless the USB drive

now just got to do some google-ing

    ok so far

    (1) I removed the PowerBook drive - and placed into a usb drive
adapter - then pluged that into a Mac Desktop Running Tiger

    (2) I used Disk Utility to clone a OSX Tiger setup, because I cant
install for lack of DVD or FireWire

    (3) I Blessed it using - on the computer I cloned it from -

sudo bless -folder /Volumes/TIGER2/System/Library/CoreServices -bootinfo /Volumes/TIGER2/usr/standalone/ppc/bootx.bootinfo

    (4) Placed the drive back into the powerbook

    (5) Booted into "Safe Boot" by holding down "Shift" when you
    power on the PowerBook

    (6) Ran Disk Utility to check Hard Disk

    (7) Went to "/System/Library/Extensions" in finder - removed extensions
for FireWire, Nvidia, and ATI Radion, AirPort, Printers, Joysticks

    (8) Used "OnyX 1.6.7" its Freeware, to clean system

(9)System now boots - even if slow -

Just got to optimize the system now

    (10) Open finder, go to "/Library/Preferences" move the "Preferences"
folder to the desktop, or were ever, - and reboot - if it boots faster
just delete the folder "Preferences" if not I guess put it back,
    - left on its own, the "Preferences" folder will be re-created

I now have a fast booting G3 PowerBook using OSX Tiger
