Well I guess I could get the screen in and see whats up then. Beyond that if I start fabing everything for the mini and then the new one comes out and the dimensions are different I'm screwed. It would be really cool to have the TV tuner though. Thats really one of the main things one the new mini I was excited about. That and the intel processor. I don't really care about the ipod dock that much.

Don't get your hopes up too much. That is a strong rumor, but still just a rumor. Remember that according to all the rumors leading up to it, the Mini was a lock to be one of the first Intel Macs.

Until it is anounced and available on the Apple Store website, don't hold your breath on either when it might come or what it might be when it does.

I was thinking too that with all the new stuff it's suppose to have (DVR,TV tuner etc.) won't the price go up significantly. Also with talks of them using a 3.5" hardrive instead of the 2.5" laptop harddrive this will also increase the size of the mini.

Anyway, I just talk to Apple UK Sales and still they don't have any news for Intel Mac Mini. I'm not sure about USA.

Actually, I think this is the best argument for NOT waiting. This isn't like going from a G4 to a G5 chip inside and you ought to consider the Intel version to be beta at best. Maybe they'll surprise us and it will work flawlessly but I wouldn't actually bet on it.

    Yes and No.

Apple will keep a dirt cheap model in the $400 to $500 range so they can continue to fight the "Macs are expensive" stereotype in the cheap PC market. Remember too that the Intel chip and going to 3.5" drives should reduce the cost to Apple (a 120GB 2.5" was ~$350 a couple of months ago, a comparable 3.5" can be had for <$100 (not taking bulk deals into account)) which should allow them to either drop the price a bit or add more goodies to the baseline at the current price.

But if you want all the nifty things, that will be extra (much like BT and AP were extras on the original model).

The 3.5" rumor is the big reason I want a G4 model over the Intel version. The 2.5" laptop drive is what makes the mini ideal for a car (both because of space and reliability). Changing to a 3.5" will add more of a risk of HDD crashes since they are design to be stationary.

We really should take this into account when talking about "computer in car" though there is no guarantee that a 2.5 drive will never fail but of course, less likely.

Yeap. And it is always possible to pull the 3.5" if they do make that switch and either mount a 2.5" internally (do they make SATA adapters, since I would assume that's what they would use) or get an external USB2/Firewire kit for one, but I really like that the current version is "car ready" in that regard
