    MacMINI + Stock Navigation

I am a nOOb when it comes to the carPC thing so hopefully you guys can help me out. BTW i have a 04 acura TSX stock navigation w/ dvd switcher conversion using this item

i would like to install a Mini, i already have a dvd converter that allows me to add different devices through the regular video inputs like svideo, video, left audio, right audio etc. i know the mini has svideo out but what about the audio?

does the resolution have to be a standard computer resolution? i believe the stock screen resolution is something weird like 840 x 428 or something random like that. if the video is coming from teh svideo would it just fit it to screen?

also what do you do about power? i would like the mini to turn off or go to standbye when i turn off the ignition and startup/resume when i turn on the car, any luck?

any luck installing front row on the older minis or should i just buy a new intel one?

thanks for the info guys, look forward to running this thing in my car!

I'm interested in on how your project turns out.

My main concern is that the display would be too blury.

If you have a laptop or can borrow a friends, you may want to test out how the TV-out from the laptop looks on the NAVI screen. S-video should give the best results, but try composite as well. Experiement with different resolutions to see how it fits on the screen. Also run some of the Front ends and other applications to see if it will be clean/clear and the text is readable. I'd appreciate it if you could take some pics to share with us.

As far as power, that has been answered before. Just search this forum to see how others have hooked their mini's up. There are PSUs and startup/shutdown controllers available. And you should be able to get frontrow installed too, but there are some other frontend options in the works.

I would really like to see this. I was going to do this with my Pioneer AVIC-D1 when the mac mini first came out, but now with front row, its more reasonable.

When you're driving, you won't be able to use the mouse and click on controls no matter how high the resolution of the video, except possibly at a stoplight. A better test might be to lower the output resolution of the Mac as much as possible, so that small controls will be relatively large, then try viewing something like an iTunes widget through the composite and S-video inputs. That way just the most useful information will be onscreen, and you'll avoid vidual clutter.

If possible, take photos so the rest of us can see how things turn out for you and offer followup advice.

thanks for the input everyone, im gonna test it out with a windows laptop when i get a chance. the avelectronics unit is great, the hardest thing is installing a switch to switch from navi to any of the 4 inputs but besides that its pretty much plug and play. ill take some pics of my current setup, ive been meaning to post them here and on some other tsx forums.

what is the best option to use for the audio from the mini? is it a standard headphone jack?
