How can you 'quit' the remote ?
Absolutely. Thanks for bringing it to my attention - I really hadn't noticed, all my testing focuses on actually using the buttonsOriginally Posted by CArringt
Yeesh. Um... that would have to be a maybe. I've written something that looks a bit like it, but the animations are much laggier - I think Front Row may use OpenGL for what it does, or at least some unpleasantly advanced Core Graphics stuff. Also, I have approximately no idea whatsoever about how to do some of its really fancy tricks - transformed video previews, real-time floor reflections, and for that matter taking the initial screenshot that the whole thing then zooms out from. It's not -impossible- per se, but it would be at least until this summer that I'd have enough time to learn everything that'd be needed to recreate Front Row.Got another question: Can you make another program that mimics the style of front row but that would carry four(or more) different programs. Have it launch and close the same way and spin the icons and the other things. if so i have another idea on how we can extend front row to cover every aspect of a carputer that we need, with room to grow indefinately.
Edit - updated again. App will now fade out after three seconds of nonactivity, whether you've clicked any buttons in the interim or not.

I don't want to recreate front row. for what it does, it does it very well. my idea is to creat another program that you could toggle back and forth between with another button on our current control system. you could incorperate the functions needed into this program that are beneficial to car users.Originally Posted by Mahalis
the only things i can really think of off the top of my head for examples would be. xm radio, bluetooth phone support, internet browsing and email. these could be the four componets of "back row" lol (things you're not supposed to do in the front row) sorry
anyway. since the current application is always on top you could add another layer. have the four icons for these functions mimic that of front row.Because they would be another layer of the current application, whatever you are doing in front row would not altered by what you are doing in the layer extension. meaning you could still have your music playing while you are looking at your email.
I'm not a programmer so if what i'm saying doesn't make since or isn't possible let me down easy.
The programming for xm radio is already availible in almost the same language as our project. mac xm was a source forge project and was written in Cocoa ( a subsidiary of Objective C).Here Not to make light of the work but it seems like it would be a small re-write and more of a redisgn in the GUI.
I do not wish to make little of the work, just wondering how much it would be, and if it was possible at all.

Is anyone else having problems with this? One I can't seem to figure out how to close the remote. I've tried clicking everything on the screen to try and exit it, but everytime I click anywhere the remote just pops up. I can't use anything behind the remote. Also, two or three of the buttons on the remote got stuck in the pressed position. Now it's in front row and I click the screen and the remote doesn't even come up. Other than that it's pretty cool.
Currently there isn't a way to do this without a keyboard. It will post in the newest version.
First give Command-Esc to exit Front Row. then click the screen to show the Front Row Remote and hit Command-Q
The command key is the one with the weird looking shape on it right? What if I don't have that key...just out of luck?
yes. um............try the alt key or windows key. if you can't figure it out you can go under system settings and assign the command key function to a different button on the keyboard
