    Screen from iBook

My friend has a dead iBook, the screen is suppose to work.

I would like to take the 12" screen and modify (not myself) the cable so I can plug it to a Mac-Mini. Can it be done ?

If yes, does anybody can help me find the information I will need to do this.

    Thank you

    Technically, anything can be done.

You'll need to find out who's LCD it is to see if there is an LCD controller available for it as that will be your biggest obstical. You might checkout turbocad6's threads about his backlight (which is another issue you'll have to address) up grade since that was based off a laptop display.

It might be easier/cheaper to just go buy a 12" monitor and hack it up though

Right now, the screen has been sitting there for more than a year. He does not plan to sell it ;-) My cost would only be the hack part.

I am looking inside turbocad6's post.
    Thank you

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but trying to get that screen working on a regular monitor connection is going to end up costing you twice what it costs for a normal monitor. Mainly because your not going to just be able to wire it into your mini, your going to need a LCD controller, now even if it pans out and you find the right controller, I highly doubt it will be less than $200. Then your still going to need a inverter which is going to be another $20 to $30, which by then your better off getting a new monitor with a warranty and isnt used.

But if your doing it for the challenge, then go for it.

This is one of the most common questions I see on LCDs.

jcdillin is right, you need a LCD controller.
Raw LCDs are pure digital, and require a controller.
You can't wire them to DVI, VGA, or anything without the controller.

www.earthlcd.com sells them, but they arn't cheap.

Sorry, I usually try to research before posting. My internet connection was giving me access only 5 to 10 minutes a day because off a dying cable modem. Still, not a good excuse. I will try not to do it again.

I guess my dream for a cheap larger screen is dead.
Back to search for another dream ;-)

    Thank you
