    (More importantly)

    3. Have *all* of your media stored in iTunes?

    4. Have movies stored in ~/Movies that *AREN'T* in iTunes?

    5. Have movies that you can't play in QuickTime?

    6. Have protected video files from iTMS?

    7. What do you like about all the current front ends?

    8. What features do you think are missing from current front ends?

    Thank you for any input

You asked ten questions. Too many. Plus, why do you want to know all this stuff?

Actually, it was only 8 questions.. And why do you think someone would want to know about how people use their front ends? Perhaps because one is in development wtih a friend.??

    1. How many of you use a touchscreen?
Touch screen but PowerMate while I drive...

    2. How many of you has a max resolution of 800x480? 800x600?
I use the native 800x480, other than that is a little too small.
BUT it would be nive to have a Quick resolution change for some system preference who need at least 800x600 (or more?)

    3. Have *all* of your media stored in iTunes?
    No, but most of it.

    4. Have movies stored in ~/Movies that *AREN'T* in iTunes?
    no

    5. Have movies that you can't play in QuickTime?
    no

    6. Have protected video files from iTMS?
    Yes, a lot

    7. What do you like about all the current front ends?

CCar because it as a button on the side that stay always on top and everytime I need to change application, I can click there and I have the full menu. (i am still looking for CCar project code version 0.7, because version 0.8 which I have is a lot different)

Or even better, like in FrontRow Remote, the menu appear as soon as you touch the screen. (I do not use FRR annymore because of some problem I had with it)

CCar because you can have a view of different album at one time.

The browsing mode of CoverFlow is nice... sometime
but since the window is not lock into position, it is hard to use it with the touch screen.

That is for music and video. Other people use other software.
I also use Route66 and KisMac.

I have put a list of software that can be used in Mac CarPuter
    on my website

I will add yours once I have more details :-)

    8. What features do you think are missing from current front ends?
I use mostly FrontRow but I would change some of it's feature.

    - Touch screen

    - When I go from a song to a video, I do not want to go through so many screen like in front row. FrontRow can play both, UI could be adapt to be use in the two modes...

    - I would love to have the album art as big as possible, all the height of the screen 480 pixels if it's possible (maybe minus a few to look good or in case the screen is not well center.

    - on the side of the album art I would like to have the standard Stop, play, rew, ff, Pause and Volume

    - It would also like to be able to see the rating of the song and change it.

    - AppleScript-able

    - A way to change application with a simple touch. I have put F9 on long click in PowerMate and then I click which window I want.

    - A way to manage all my voice command :-)

The thing right now I want the most but It is not in a front end is a small board that you take 2 microphones input and substract them to remove background noise and a cut low frequency from wind noise, so I can have voice recognition at high speed.

    Good luck in your project.

Iím a bit confused here. These days, as far as I can see most of the 7Ē/8Ē touchscreens are at 800x480 as native and all most all of them are widescreen. How do you handle the full screen view at 800x600 on a widescreen monitor? Those 800x600 screens arenít 4:3 type?

I donít think itís very easy. I rather think itís almost impossible to make a universal application like this which can run seamlessly at 800x480 and 800x600. There are hell lot of graphics works involved to cover that extra 120px area. From the graphics point of view (using pixel graphics), it should be considered as a totally separate project. I maybe wrong though.

Ahh, that PowerMate looks like a great way to scroll through songs, albums, artists, etc

One ****ty thing is Apple has locked out developers from playing their protected video files (from iTMS). You can only access audio, but not video. The only solution for a developer is to play the file externally via QuickTime (which is one heck of a kludge)
