Actually, even if you pull the drive power after the Mini is asleep, you'll still get that nasty warning every time it wakes up (though your data should be safer).

If that is the case, then surely if i just eject the drive before i switch the ignition off, it will find the drive again when it comes out of sleep....?

If this is so, is there any way i can do the eject when the machine goes into sleep...???

    so as an example....

    This Drive Would Work?

Is that what you are getting at, cos it is powered direct from firewire and not AC/DC

I think you'll still have to unplug and plug it back. I've ejected my iPod and had my G5 go to sleep, it didn't remount when it came back. Now if you rebooted, it'd show up.
    Failure is not an option....

It's installed by default on every version of Windows.

You could write a Coca based App that runs in the back ground and listens for the sleep notification. The Cocoa docs say you can delay a sleep for 20 seconds while doing other tasks. So you could catch the notification and unmount the drive.

Mmmmmm, i can see me taking the machine out and trying all the options for this 1.

Still can't have it powered by invertor though, so if any other solutions come to mind apart from a firewire powered drive, or if it is poss to find an external that WILL run on the P1900 second output, then let me know.

Drain isn;t really a concern as it would be powered off completely on return home every night, just want it quick for when i'm in and out of the car all day long.

Cheers, that went straight over my head... Lol

I'm guessing it can be done then, but not found on coming out of sleep...???

    Would that be right...???

It looks like a good candidate. The big question (which their website doesn't answer) is what happens when the Mini sleeps. I believe that Firewire and USB are both powered during sleep (I know they used to be, haven't tried recently). If the drive continues to draw full power (I would be surprised if this is the case since no accessing is happening) while the Mini is asleep, then you run the risk of running your battery down (though the P1900 will cut the power before you are really screwed).

Yeah I was afraid of that

The problem is that there isn't a big call for this, so finding someone to make you an App might be tricky.

As far as waking from sleep (yes my iPod still charges while my PB is asleep), when I woke my PB it remounted my iPod even though I manually ejected it before putting it to sleep.

It apparently does not however charge while the Mini is asleep on the P1900. I did use firewire on my PB and USB on the Mini though (don't know if that makes a difference).
