    Front Row issues - ideas?

I just bought a Powerbook G3 "Pismo" to round out my carputer setup. I have a Keyspan remote that I was planning to use for Front Row. However, when I actually bring up FR, all the text is upside down and mirrored. This may be because the PB's video card doesn't support Core Image, but is there some kind of hack to just flip them over?

Barring that, are there any good Mac frontends that don't require a touchscren? Some of the ones I tested were excellent, but they required clicking on buttons and did not have equivalent key commands that could be mapped to the Keyspan remote.

    Any help appreciated.

well front row would be your best bet for just using the remote since you dont have a touch screen. i used it with my touch screen until AMP was developed and it works great. very clean looking, easy on the eyes at night.
Cant code cause I dont know how, but give me the paint bucket and my eraser and have at you!

Yeah, unfortunately it's almost unusable with the text flipped over, not to mention anyone else will think it's ridiculous.

I'm looking into modifying http://www.itheaterproject.com/ to actually talk to iTunes... I don't understand why all these frontends use their own MP3 player, it locks you out of stuff like iTunes Store content and Smart Shuffle.

What are you talking about "text flipped over"?

You think that's a good idea? To modify one piece of garbage to talk to another piece of garbage?

I think iTheater is a great start. It has a ways to go before it's "ready", though.

Anyway, on pre-G4 machines or ones without video cards that support CI, hacked installs of Front Row work, but sometimes all the text is mirrored and upside down. Weird artifacts appear too.

If you hack front row to work on an older machine that doesn't have enough video power to support core image, the text is shown upside down and backwards. It did that on my Cube till I updated the video card.
    Failure is not an option....

It's installed by default on every version of Windows.

Looks like I'm screwed since the Pismo doesn't have any options for upgrading the video chip.

I'm in touch with the iTheater team, but their coders quit. I may end up taking over :-p

Unhappy Flipped Text in Front Row

"What are you talking about "text flipped over"?"

[HL]This is what he is talking about. [/HL]

The text gets mirrored (each letter flipped) when you run Front Row with a video card that does not support core graphics. I encountered this issue when upgrading a G4 dual 500 machine. The solution was to install a newer card.

I don't think that there are many options for a laptop...
