Non-stop Internet access on a mac?

    Hey guys,

I'm trying to figure out if anyone got a non-stop Internet access on a mac? What I mean by this is someway to connect to cellular networks or something that will allow us to have Internet access when no wifi points are close by. I know there is a lot of data plans out there but they all start at $50/month which is a bit much in my opinion. I saw somebody on this forum get a data plan from BoostMobile for $6/month which is a great price. For me personaly I don't need anything insanely fast, 128kbit would do, just so that I can look up stuff when I'm on the road, like restaurants, etc. Any insight would be welcome.

    Thanks.

Ask your cell company. It also depends on your mac.
    Failure is not an option....

It's installed by default on every version of Windows.

well they have data plans that require PCMCIA card and they're still $50/month to start.

I have a latest mac mini dual core.

I'm very interested in the Boost Mobile option. Apparently, you can launch it with Mologogo and get tracking of your position since it's got GPS in it.

I'm not sure whether it will work with the Mac, although I know there are people who have net access via their phones on their Mac.

yeah the boost mobile thing sounds awsome. For that kind of many I'd be crazy not to get a connection.

Most cell phones can be used as a modem.

Unfortunately, I don't have a mac, so I can't tell you if it works...

But, I can tell you... I used the Boost Mobile option back when it was only $0.20/day, and thankfully in San Diego there is WiDen dervice (About WiDen = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WiDEN).... Right now there are a very limited amount of places where WiDen actually works. For the rest of you with no Widen coverage, the fastest you will probably see is like 28KBPS...

I use my Cingular Edge phone now, 160-230KBPS, for only $20/month for you normal Cingular users... I get it for free cuz I have an Employee plan...

    Peace,

    Rafster

where do you get this $20/month plan? I see one for $20 but it's for like 5mb, which is of no use for any serious usage. The unlimited ones are like $50.

I have Verizon. Just your standard America's Choice 400 anytime minutes for $50 per month. I have the RAZR V3c, and use it as a dialup modem over bluetooth (no wires!). It doesn't cost anything extra per month, just airtime. This means that after 9pm weekdays, and all day on weekends, it's free :-)

Now what would be great would be some kind of AppleScript or something, that could detect when you were within range of a WiFi signal, and use that, and then automatically detect when you lost the WiFi signal and connect via the cell phone, to provide somewhat uninterrupted internet access, with no user interaction.
