My custom install: check it over, please!

Description: I want to have a mini running gps, fm radio, itunes, dvd player, all in 5.1 in a 03 jeep grand cherokee. i will eventually add more screens for headrests, etc.. after i get the basics going. I need to know what else i am missing or overlooking. I have not drawn up a wiring diagram yet, and i probably should..

I am pretty sure that i want the mini mounted in teh cargo area, so what does everyone suggest for a dvd drive upfront? i want a slot loading one in my dash, (i can make any kind of faceplate for it, i've got the fiberglass skillz) but i cant find a suitable one. suggestions??

edit: i just checked out the amp software, and it looks way better than just using front row or something...

Nice set up. You might want to check out a USB sound card with optical output like:

    http://www.nextag.com/Siig-USB-SOUND...47/prices-html

And use it with a Multimedia amp like:

    http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro...s_id/2857.html

I am using a firewave and a 4 channel amp, but i have a USB sound card with optical that i want to use in the future with an amp as described above, but need to save the pennies.

    Good luck mate.

pepsibobby- thanks for the reply; yeah, the items havent even been bought yet. i want this perfect *on paper* before i buy a single item, thats just the way i plan my stuff..

hotch- i'll check it, thanks. i really like the stuff griffin makes, but i will at least look at what your telling me.

mr2mac. you're telling me to drop the firewave for a seemingly pos usb soundcard? oh wait, i didnt notice it had the optical output. in that case, i will check it out. the only thing is with that alpine amp, unless i am wrong, you have to have one of alpines specific head units to fully tweak that amp. that ****es me off, and i do not like companies that pull crap like that.. i wish more companies made multimedia amps..

    anyone else have any ideas/suggestions?

the mini already has optical out, and since you like griffin try this:
    http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/xpresscable/
then onto an optical output amp or some form of decoder (I think the defacto is alpine as well Pxa-something or other)

the mini has an optical out? why the hell didnt i ever notice that before?! forget the firewave then.. well i still need to find an amp that will support optical that does not require me to use their head unit.. any suggestions for that?

i dont think you need to use the Alpine headunit for that amp just if you wana control it with out going to the amp itself.

from alpines site: tell me if you guys know something different than what i am reading...
"The PXA-H701 multimedia manager™......Use it in stand-alone mode with the RUX-C701 controller and achieve perfect imaging with manual or auto time correction"
the pxa-h701 is $550. the rux-c701 is ~$200, and that is a headunit that will take up more space in the dash than i wanted.. the sound side of this whole install seems like it will be the most complicated..
    what should i do?

you may want to peep this amp for digital input from the mac mini (it's 5.1 surround sound): http://www.alpine-europe.com/content...-AMPLIFIER.htm
