Oki just did some more testing. It seems that if i acces the configere menu and select a skin and start op destinator OSK wont work. Do i then run the shorcut located in the destinator apps folder it works.

Very strange, win xp firewall is on.

Lauch the D3 directly to the D3 Frontend.exe , no to the shortcut.
    The OSK work ok

Its one problem (little bug?),Ninja repair it in the next release!

    I had the same problem.

I disabled auto show OSK started destinator. exit it. turned auto show OSK on. and it worked. In the mean time I installed beta 1 and deleted directory and installed beta 2.

So I am not sure whitch fixed the problem...

Hi all, this is my first post. Sorry it is a long one! This site is a great resource and a credit to its contributors.

I'm going to be installing a carputer, and for me one of the most important things to get going is navigation as I'll be replacing an existing system. As Destinator seems to have everything I need I'm looking closely at it as an option. However, I've come across this keyboard issue having installed the beta Destinator front end and none of the suggestions given so far have worked. I thought I'd post some information to help with diagnosis.

I have two PCs - the on screen keyboard has never worked on one of them and works perfectly on the other.

First PC - OSK does not work on this machine.
Windows XP Home Edition, SP2. Now upgraded to XP professional - problem still exists.
    512Mb RAM
    Athlon XP1900
    Destinator front end beta 1.1.314

    1. Launch the software from the shortcut
    2. Click ok on the beta nag screen
    3. Currently configured for classic menus but behaves the same with the other skin.
    4. I get an error message on startup because the software is configured for GPS on COM1: and there is no GPS receiver installed. CLick OK on the error message and the app works fine.
    5. Cick Menu, Destination, Address.
    6. On Screen Keyboard automatically pops up, and the dialog for selecting the address appears above it.
    7. At this point, neither the address window nor the Destinator 3 main window have the focus. This differs to the PC on which it works (see description below). The caption bar of the address window is below the caption bar of the main window (again this is different on the other PC).
If you try and grab the address entry window and drag it, it jumps back to the original location.
    8. Going straight from step 6 to here, click a keyboard key with the mouse, the address window gets focus when the mouse is pressed down. When the mouse is released, a beep is heard and the focus returns to the destinator main window. The character pressed does not appear in the edit window at the bottom of the address form.
    9. This one is quite interesting: With the address form open, click in the edit window at the bottom and using the PC keyboard (not the software one), type something in - say "London". This works fine; but bring a different application to the front and then move back to the Destinator window by clicking the main window's caption - the word London disappears.
    10. Another interesting symptom: Type "London" as before with the PC keyboard. Then press any key on the software keyboard as though to add another letter to the word. The key highlights as you press it, but when you release it there is a beep and nothing happens. Press a key again and thre is another beep and the entire word is cleared from the display.
    11. Click the caption of the address form, so that it has focus. Then click a key on the OSK - it highlights, there's a beep, but the character pressed does not appear. Click the same key again - this time it does not highlight and there is a beep again. What does happen though is that the address window gets the focus when I click on the OSK for the second time. On the system that works, this is the opposite - the focus moves away from the address window to when the OSK is used, and then back to the address window.

I managed to make it work once - I pressed 'S' and an 'S' appeared in the window. I don't know what I did to make it happen though. It was just some of the above but obviously in a subtly different way.

Second PC - works on this machine.
    Toshiba laptop
    XP Pro
    192Mb RAM
    P366
    Destinator front end beta 1.1.314

    1. Launch the software from the shortcut
    2. Click ok on the beta nag screen
    3. Currently configured for classic menus but behaves the same with the other skin.
    4. There is no GPS receiver installed but I get no error message.
    5. Cick Menu, Destination, Address.
    6. On Screen Keyboard automatically pops up, and the dialog for selecting the address appears above it.
    7. At this point, the address entry window has the focus which is unlike the first example. I have also noticed that the position of this window is different - the caption bar of the window is over the top of the main window caption bar. If you try and grab the address entry window and drag it, it allows you do to so. Letting go of the window, it stays where you left it.
    8. Going straight from step 6 to here, click a keyboard key with the mouse, the keyboard button highlights while the mouse is down and it works as one would expect.

The most obvious difference between these two is that one is XP home edition and the other is XP professional. I have tried upgrading the Home one to Pro and the problem still exists. I've tried all the stuff about firewall and using the program rather than the shortcut - none of this has any effect on my system (and to be honest I can't see how it would either).

It seems like the keypress messages are not always going to the correct window, and also that the mouse clicks over the OSK do not always reach the OSK window even though you're clicking the mouse on it. In the working system, the entry form always has the focus and when you press the keyboard it temporarily moves away then back. On the system that does not work, something else has the focus and when you press the keyboard the address window gets the focus. I think the difference in focus is a possible hint to the cause, as is the difference in the way the form can / can not be moved around the screen (I assume it is deliberate that it wants to stay with the main window in the working example).

Hope this information is of some help.

    Ric.

I'm pretty sure the PC that it's not working on has something running in the background that shares the same window attributes as the Address dialog which is preventing the OSK from finding it (and also from being resized).

When I get some time I'll create an app to find out for sure.

I've just been through killing off processes to see when/if I could get it to work, and here were the results:

Stopped apache server - still not working
stopped 'teatimer' (spots startup changes) - no change
stopped 'startupmonitoir' (same as previous) - no change
stopped 'pop3trap' - part of my antivirus I think - no change
stopped 'pccntmon' - also part of antivirus (Trend OfficeScan) - On Screen Keyboard started working.

My laptop also has anti-virus installed, and it is also Trend OfficeScan, but its an earlier version which I was about to update until I started playing with the destinator front end!

    Thanks,
    Ric.

2 years on I found the solution to mine.
toshkcw.exe is an app for the wireless hotkey on a toshiba laptop. It don't like mapmonkey's OSK. No idea why.
    Uninstalled - sorted.
