    com port error

hello, first thanks for the massive work!

Now, i have coupled my leadtek 5632/ sirf protocol enabled+destinator 3 frontend. everything's fine except i get an error(com port not recognized or something like it...) immediately after launching the .exe. i close the dialog box, then i go into gps settings, manually set the com port, baud and protocol and im done. problem is that if i close and re launch, i have to go through it again, like if it doesnt save the settings. is there an ini file i can edit in order to set the port im using?
FYI, im using the leadtek 9532 gps active antenna with usb plug and the usb to serial prolific driver. one thing: during first setup of the frontend, in the gps settings all i had were the two "real" com ports, com1 and 2. Com 3, the "virtual" one created by the prlific driver wasnt there. In device manager i then disabled com2 and i told com3 to be com2. (not very clear isnt it?). i launch Frontend D3, get the com errror dialog box, i click on continue, go to gps settings, manually reset etc.

secondly, this is less important but still i report it for the record: im unable to see in real time the speed in the lower right corner of my screen. just sits there and shows 0 km/h.

thanks again for your hard work.

update: just scrolled through the posts: I understand Sirf protocol is not supported in this latest version, am i wrong? if so that could be my problem? ninja, im willing to be a tester for Sirf protocol support, just pm me or leave a message!!

    A little confused here...

You say your speed is being displayed as 0Km/h, So you must have Advanced GPS enabled. This means you shouldn't be going to "GPS Settings" to set up the com port but using the "Destinator 3 Frontend - Configuration" shortcut under the "Advanced GPS" tab.

But then because you're using SiRF, advanced GPS (NMEA only) won't work! If you want SiRF, turn Advanced off

If you want advanced GPS, use NMEA and configure the com port in FE config and not destinator!

    Phew!

    hello ninja,

thankyou for your reply. i did as you say and all is fine. i did a change of protocol with my little gpsmon utility from leadtek. i changed to nmea protocol, 4800. i can now visualize speed BUT (there is always a but with nmea i notice a not so nice slow down of performance, for example my position is delayed for 3-4 seconds. in brief, can i use your wonderful d3 frontend with sirf protocol? in nmea i cannot set com port speed higher that 4800 bauds but with sirf i can go to 19200 without problems, and all navigating experience seems much more responsive. i understand though that with sirf i will not be able to visualize speed? excuse in advance for my (great) confusion..
