Oh and it does handle higher resolution textures, BUT! and it's a big BUT!
it would take a LARGE 20Terrabytes to store England and Wales, and since we've not got large terrabyte drives, we're stuck with the 5Meter data, taking 4.42GB
but the high-res version REALLY DOES LOOK GREAT
I have Wirral and most of Liverpool at highres
wish the queen would tell getmapping to make the servers FREE, so we can have E&W at high-res, accessed from the net, would make this the BEST looking Nav system ever.
Spose, that's the only good thing about the american one, MS have done it for free nice one M$ ( can't believe I just said that lol ) now if you can just do the England one too, we'd all be greatly appreciative

What would be really really cool would be elevation data.

wow I can't stop thinking about HOW COOL it would be with elevation data as well... photorealistic birds-eye view with the route overlaid.

with the elevation data I dont think the ultra-high-res is that important, the normal res with elevation would look amazing.

this is the future of gps software, along with traffic/weather dealys on the maps, this is it folks... and by then you will have much bigger Hard drives, faster processors and media that holds far greather than dvd's. The maps will take up so much! i wonder if those kind of maps are available now, and if so... if its possible to start workin on such a design. hmmmmm

Hey that would be cool, if it could pick up a downloaded weather file and set the sky accordingly!

The whole United States is 15 TB of uncompressed data.
I am going to build this in a GPS application that I am currently building. It will be for the US. It won't be mod for Mapmonkey though.
